Two Years After the July Movement: Promise or Decline?

The July 2024 movement promised democracy, accountability, and a brighter future for Bangladesh. Two years later, many are asking whether those promises were fulfilled.

According to the media reports -

📉 GDP growth has slowed, while inflation remains high.
🏭 The garment sector has faced factory closures and job losses.
🎓 Universities have experienced prolonged disruption and academic uncertainty.
⚖ Reports of mob violence and concerns over law and order have increased.
🛕 Human rights groups have documented hundreds of attacks against minority communities.
🗳 The ban on the Awami League and the controversial 2026 election have fueled debate over political inclusion and democratic legitimacy.
🏛 Questions continue over the independence of institutions and the preservation of Bangladesh’s historical legacy.

Two years on, one question continues to resonate:

Did the July Movement strengthen Bangladesh’s democracy, or did it leave the nation more divided, more fragile, and further from the future it promised?
