@braunfarm @roser2688 Not always the employees fault. Many govnt programs are complex, redundant, and basically a waste of time. Our FSA would love to change things, but unfortunately they don’t make the calls, the “smart” higher-ups do. Also have you seen a starting wage.. hard to compete!

@BEisenhart If it makes you that anxious, I’d suggest getting a CPA that you can meet with in-person for a short meeting before and after year end and they should be able to guide you on what 1099s you should have based on the previous year and know what deductions are allowed. Ask around!

@CBKimbrell The problem in our area though is that young farmers can’t “swing the payments” on any of these farms that are selling. Only way is to get a “friend/family discount” and that’s getting far less common when sellers only see the dollar signs! Get close with the landlords I guess!

@gwiesefarms @kowalchukfarms1 Most farms in our area have been bought by: Established “small farmers” with many hundred acres to their family name already, large farms, or outside investors (who typically have the large farms rent it). Some 1031 happens, but that’s mostly from selling ground to be developed.
