Practical Ownership Issues:

• The term "multi-floor support" should not be interpreted as effortless multi-floor cleaning. In reality, it primarily means multiple map storage.

• For a typical Indian multi-storey house, the battery capacity is simply inadequate for continuous multi-floor cleaning. A reasonably sized home can easily take 5–6 hours or more because of recharge cycles, manual movement between floors and setup time.

• The dock is large and heavy (approximately 13.5 kg empty and significantly heavier once the clean and dirty water tanks are filled). Carrying it repeatedly between floors is impractical.

• If vacuum-only cleaning also requires moving the dock between floors, the practical usefulness of the advertised multi-floor feature is greatly reduced.

• Overall, the product requires considerably more supervision than expected. It is not yet a true "set it and forget it" experience for larger Indian homes.

Technical Issues (2/2):

• With Do Not Disturb (DND) enabled, after the dock power was switched off overnight while the robot remained docked, the robot repeatedly left the dock on its own the following morning and started roaming around the house, apparently searching for the dock. A premium robot should simply remain docked and idle when no cleaning task has been scheduled.

• During a power outage, the robot appeared to interrupt operation despite having sufficient battery charge and uninterrupted Wi-Fi connectivity through UPS. Ideally, it should continue cleaning and reconnect once dock power is restored.

• The dock has no battery backup capability. Even a small backup allowing the robot to reconnect during short power failures would make the product much more suitable for countries with occasional power cuts.

• Initial mopping performance was disappointing. With default settings (Moist, 20 m² mop wash interval), the floor remained much drier than expected.

Congratulations on becoming the No.1 global robot vacuum brand (IDC Q1 2026). As an Indian owner of the Dreame L50s Pro Ultra, here are my real-world observations after using it in a multi-storey home. This is not a sponsored review or an unboxing—these are practical ownership experiences.

Technical Issues (1/2):

• The robot failed to recognize an existing saved floor map after being moved to another floor. Instead of localizing itself on the saved map, it repeatedly created temporary maps. Manual map selection also failed, forcing deletion and recreation of the floor map.

• One of the previously saved maps disappeared unexpectedly without being intentionally deleted. For a premium robot, map management should be significantly more reliable.

• The advertised multi-floor mapping feature is technically available, but in practical use it is far less seamless than expected. Split-level homes and areas separated by steps require separate maps because the robot cannot transition between them.

Interesting perspective, and I agree with the broader point that high starting valuations can compress future returns. However, I think the conclusion that SIPs have "killed volatility" goes a bit too far.

SIPs don't create infinite demand like the Bank of Japan's Yield Curve Control. They are simply a steady source of domestic liquidity. They can cushion normal corrections, but they cannot eliminate risk or price discovery. Earnings disappointments, economic slowdowns, geopolitical shocks, or large institutional selling can still cause significant drawdowns—as we've seen even in recent years in several mid-cap and small-cap stocks.

Also, SIPs were never designed to maximize returns; they were designed to reduce timing risk for investors with regular monthly income. In a steadily rising market, a lump-sum investment will naturally outperform because all the capital is invested from day one. The problem is that nobody knows in advance whether the market will rise steadily or experience a major correction.

The real takeaway, in my view, is not to abandon SIPs but to reset expectations. Future equity returns may well be lower than those of the last two decades due to elevated valuations. A disciplined SIP combined with sensible asset allocation, periodic rebalancing, and some dry powder for major corrections is likely to be a more robust strategy than relying solely on either SIPs or lump-sum investing.

The article raises an important question about valuation and expected returns, but the Japan analogy and the conclusion that SIPs have fundamentally broken market cycles seem overstated.

Urban Company has damaged the local service market. Now local painters, cleaners, plumbers & electricians demand UC rates without having the same skills or professionalism.When Urban Company charges a high fee, we customers expect experienced & skilled workers, not ordinary chowk labourers. UC mainly acts as a platform connecting customers with random local workers, but it does not seem to properly monitor their work or verify their references.When we hire someone from the local market, we usually ask for references before giving them work. With Urban Company, there is no such assurance. We pay premium prices, a platform fee n still often get average chalu quality work presented as expert service. If the work is poorly done or unprofessional behavior is shown by the worker, there is no accountability or penalty for the workers. Its better to avoid such service and hire people through local reference where you can do a site visit and SEE the quality.

Urban Company Painting Service – My Experience

The project involved repainting two walls in my house, one drawing room wall and one bedroom wall, covering approximately 408 sq. ft. The scope included scraping, putty work, primer and application of Asian Paints Royale Matte.

Before the quotation was prepared, the walls were physically inspected and measured. Additional putty work and primer work were specifically included in the quotation. I accepted the quotation exactly as provided and did not negotiate the price.

Despite this, discussions regarding scope and work requirements were reopened after the project had already started. If the walls have already been inspected, measured and quoted, there should be no further debate regarding what is included in the job.

Workmanship

The project involved JK Wall Putty, Asian Paints Acrylic Primer and Asian Paints Royale Matte.

The execution frequently appeared rushed. The painter repeatedly moved too quickly between putty work, primer application, repair work and paint coats. On multiple occasions I had to intervene and insist on additional drying time.

A further concern was the apparent inability to differentiate between a basic paint job and a premium paint application. Premium paint systems demand higher standards of preparation, wall leveling, drying times and finishing quality. Unfortunately, much of the execution gave the impression that a low-cost approach was being applied to a premium painting project.

Final Quality

The issue is not paint colour or paint coverage. The issue is poor wall putty application and poor wall leveling.

The bedroom wall continues to show visible unevenness and repair-related imperfections. The drawing room wall also shows visible surface undulations and leveling defects under wall lighting and accent lighting.

After extensive scraping, putty work, primer work and premium paint application, the walls should have exhibited a much higher degree of flatness and uniformity.

Cleanup and Support

The site was not properly cleaned. Furniture was not restored to its original position and the painter refused to return the next day to complete that work. We ultimately had to engage an external cleaning service to make the rooms usable again.

The support experience was even worse. I raised an SOS complaint and ended up repeating the same story to multiple representatives. Despite multiple calls and escalations, no supervisor, inspector, auditor or manager visited the site and no meaningful corrective action was taken.

The originally assigned point of contact was no longer available, no effective replacement was assigned and there was no single individual responsible for ownership, supervision, escalation or resolution.

Inspection

After multiple complaints and SOS escalations, Urban Company's idea of quality inspection was a video call.

Nobody physically inspected the walls, workmanship, preparation quality or cleanup.

Final Verdict

I paid a premium price expecting professional project management, supervision, quality control and accountability.

What I actually received was:

1. No effective point of contact.
2. No physical inspection.
3. No meaningful escalation process.
4. No accountability.
5. Repeated attempts to reopen discussions after the quotation had already been finalized.
6. Constant arguments during execution.
7. Rushed application of putty, primer and paint.
8. Poor wall leveling resulting in visible surface undulations after completion.
9. Incomplete cleanup and restoration of furniture.
10. Multiple calls from multiple people but no actual resolution.

In short, I paid Urban Company but ended up doing Urban Company's job myself.

Walls can be repainted. Lost time, stress and peace of mind cannot.

I do not recommend Urban Company's painting service.
