Sheikh Hasina expresses condolences on the passing of Begum Khaleda Zia

I extend my deepest condolences on the passing of BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia.

As the first woman Prime Minister of Bangladesh, and for her role in the struggle to establish democracy, her contributions to the nation were significant and will be remembered. Her passing represents a profound loss for Bangladesh’s political life and for the leadership of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party.

I pray for the eternal peace and forgiveness of Begum Khaleda Zia’s soul.

I convey my sincere sympathies to her son, Tarique Rahman, and to the members of her bereaved family. I also extend my condolences to the wider BNP family. I hope that Almighty Allah grants them patience, strength, and comfort to endure this difficult time.

Why does Jamaat-e-Islami and their cohorts feel uncomfortable on 14 December?

Because this day stands as the most brutal testimony to their role in 1971. Just before victory, the history of abducting and killing the nation’s finest intellectuals through Al-Badr cannot be denied even today. During the Liberation War of 1971, the top leadership of Jamaat-e-Islami took a position in favor of Pakistan. Al-Badr, a force formed from their student organization, was directly involved in the abduction, torture, and murder of intellectuals—facts that are historically proven and widely acknowledged.

The massacre of intellectuals on 14 December was essentially a planned operation carried out by Al-Badr.

Shaheed Intellectuals Day is therefore not only a day of mourning—it is a reminder of historical accountability.

Deep respect to the martyred intellectuals.

•Abolition of the illegal kangaroo ICT court,
