Because I am getting this question dozens of times in my DMs from trans people/parents... If you're trying to move for safety:

It is more important to look at why Trump was allowed to run, after committing sedition and a number of other crimes to which he confessed, than why he was able to win.
There are a lot of lessons to learn:
- you have to win to wield power
- you can’t “teach your side a lesson” by helping them lose
- other minority groups want to be white & will vote alongside white interests even when it hurts them
- black people consistently vote pragmatically
Via @librarycongress: Something to ponder as you head out to vote today. In the Library’s Rosa Parks Papers collection, there’s a receipt for the poll tax she had to pay to vote in Alabama in 1956. Poll taxes were not abolished until 1964.
