An 18-year-old Kashmiri boy, who had come to the Vikas Nagar area of Uttarakhand with his family to sell shawls, was brutally assaulted by fringe elements. The attackers first questioned the family about their identity. When they learned that the family belonged to the Muslim community and was from Kashmir, the situation quickly escalated into violence.
The young boy was repeatedly punched, while other family members were dragged, slapped, and attacked with sharp iron rods. The assault was driven purely by hatred toward their identity, religion, and place of origin.
This horrifying incident once again highlights how India is becoming increasingly unsafe for Muslims. Day by day, living with dignity is turning into a struggle, and the constant fear for one’s life has become a harsh reality. Many fear that the rise of extremist Hindutva ideology is pushing the country toward a dangerous path one that resembles systematic persecution and even the preparation for mass violence against Muslims.
