According to Anadolu, Türkiye's domestically developed Oruç Reis Research Vessel is set to embark on a mission to Somalia this Saturday. The ship will conduct seismic surveys for oil and natural gas in three licensed maritime zones off the Somali coast, marking the first time 3D seismic studies will be carried out in these areas. The mission is expected to last around 7 months, with support from Türkiye’s naval frigates and additional vessels, including the Zağanos Pa��a Support Ship, Sancar Platform Support Ship, and Ataman Tracking Ship.

Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar stated that Türkiye Petrolleri holds an exploration license in a 15,000 square kilometer maritime zone in Somalia. He noted, “This seismic activity is the first step in exploration. Together with our President, we will send off the Oruç Reis to begin seismic studies in the designated maritime zones.
