I’ll be rappelling down Hill Hall at Eastern Michigan University for Friends In Deed’s Over the Edge 2026 fundraiser.
Friends In Deed was started by local churches. They still run on neighbors, congregations, and people who choose to give — not on a government program standing in for charity. That is exactly how communities are supposed to work. People are generous. They want to help other people. When we give freely, it comes with a human face. Taxes are not charity.

After spending most of the day at the Jackson County Fair, we headed over to Pleasant Lake in Henrietta Township. We found a good route around the lake—about 3½ miles (not counting all the up-and-down driveway mileage). Midway through we realized we didn’t have enough palm cards, so we finished the loop, grabbed more, and went back to hit the houses we’d missed.
