Over 60 shops were torched by BJP-backed miscreants, destroying the livelihoods of innocent people overnight. Hindu-owned shops, Muslim-owned shops, it made no difference. This was not an attack on any one community; it was a calculated assault on Bengal’s social harmony, democratic fabric and the ordinary citizens who simply want to live in peace.

Rohit Pradhan, leader of the Hindu Suraksha Seva Manch, delivered a speech targeting Muslims, portraying Islam as a “path of darkness” despite claiming it originates from Sanatan. He described meat consumption as “adharm,” criticised gym-related meat consumption, and claimed Hindu women are systematically targeted, urging attendees to monitor and control women in their families to prevent them from being influenced by “mullahs” or subjected to practices like “halala.” He used dehumanising slurs, referring to Muslim leaders as “pigs,” He asserted that Muslims view all Hindus as “kafir,” claiming this is taught in madrasas along with how to target Hindu women and destroy temples, and alleged that mosques and madrasas serve as sites for mobilisation and confinement of Hindus during conflict. He further described Muslims as “narbhakshi” (cannibals), alleged they treat women as reproductive instruments, and warned against allowing “jihadis” into Hindu homes.
