Christy Penrod's run to a street stock title in 2015 was one of my favorite stories ever to write. She's been mostly busy with hospital work for the past decade, but tonight she's back in the winner's circle at Grundy County Speedway!

Just a shoutout to a deserving kid. If it were not for an almost season-long injury, Lway West's Reese Rourke would easily have been a member of the Southtown 2026 all-area team. Her contributions during West's playoff run to the Class 4A title are undeniable. She is a champion!

@IllinoisGolfer Tim, it's pretty standard in softball. The Southland is always VERY STRONG. I just try to represent the whole area with a sound and reasonable balance. Most of them understand. I'm just lucky to see such great softball!

Just looked at the 2026 All-State softball list. On the first two teams ALONE, there are 30 Southtown-area players. I have 24 spots for my first and second all-area teams. My, oh my. There will be some pretty amazing names on the honorable mention list. Southland kids can play!
