Professor Benseler is a pediatrician, and pediatric rheumatologist, who trained in Germany and Canada. She provided care for children with rare inflammatory diseases at the Children’s Hospitals in Freiburg and Bonn, Germany and @sickkids Toronto and the Alberta Children’s Hospital University of Calgary, Canada.
Susa is a Clinical Researcher trained in Immunology and Clinical Epidemiology; she is Professor of Pediatrics. She co-leads the international precision health program for childhood arthritis UCAN, established the first Canadian transdisciplinary Child Health and Wellness Strategy and the large-scale Canadian Child Health Research Initiative “One Child Every Child”- a partnership of health care, universities and communities aiming to transform outcomes for children and families internationally. She also serves as the Stream Lead for Pediatric Rheumatology in the European Reference Networks.

Dr Kieran Walsh, Deputy Director of Health Technology Assessment (HTA) at @HIQA and Adjunct Clinical Senior Lecturer in the @Pharmacy_UCC, will be a keynote speaker at the Trinity Health and Education International Research Conference #THEconf2026, 3-5 March 2026.
Dr Walsh oversees the Strategy, Support and Research Function in the HTA Directorate, supporting evidence-based advice for national decision-makers in @HSELive and @roinnslainte. He also leads the lonising Radiation Evidence Review Team.
A registered pharmacist with experience in community, hospital and clinical trial settings, Kieran has been a member of @YoungAcademyIrl since 2023 and has a strong interest in getting evidence into policy. He supports the Heads of HTA Agencies Group (HAG) on the implementation of the EU HTA Regulation. He has an active research profile and has received several national awards, including the HSE Open Access Research Awards and the Royal Academy of Medicine (RAMI) Awards.

Well done to @tcddublin alumnus, Fergal Guihen (General Nursing, 2021), who recently completed a 30,000km cycling challenge from Roscommon to Australia.
Fergal's cycle took him to 28 countries and across three continents, and he has raised almost €170,000 to date in aid of the Mayo Roscommon Hospice Foundation and NorthWest STOP suicide prevention services.
Fergal's former lecturer, Jacqueline Whelan, Director of Global Engagement at the School of Nursing & Midwifery, joined a huge crowd on the steps of Sydney Opera House to cheer on Fergal as he finished his cycling odyssey.👏🚴♂️

Carolyn Donohue, CEO of the @NMBI_ie will join us for a keynote presentation at the Trinity Health and Education International Research Conference #THEconf2026 which takes place 3-5 March 2026.
From April 2024 to July 2025 Carolyn was Interim Chief Executive, leading the Registration, Fitness to Practice, Education & Corporate Services teams to fulfil NMBI's legislative mandate as a professional regulator.
Carolyn joined NMBI in 2021 as Director of Education, Policy & Standards, after extensive experience in critical care nursing education and management, nursing practice development, and perioperative services.
She holds postgraduate qualifications in nursing education and business strategy, focusing on leadership and regulation in nursing and midwifery.
At NMBI, she advanced reform in regulatory inspections and standards for nursing and midwifery practice, offering a roadmap for safe, effective care that supports professionals and protects the public.

Damien McCallion, Chief Technology and Transformation Officer & Deputy CEO, @HSELive, will deliver a keynote presentation at the upcoming Trinity Health and Education International Research Conference #THEconf2026 which takes place 3-5 March 2026.
Damien leads technology, data governance, digital development, and organisational reform within the HSE. He heads the Sláintecare Programme and Organisational Change Unit, driving system-wide transformation.
Previously Chief Operations Officer (2022-2024), Damien oversaw daily services and over 100,000 staff, and led Ireland's COVID-19 Vaccination and Test & Trace programmes. His earlier HSE roles include leadership in ICT, the National Ambulance Service, and Emergency Management, as well as cross-border work with CAWT and Safefood.
He previously worked in the airline industry and holds an MSc in Innovation Management from the University of Ulster.

We are delighted to announce Professor Sarah H. Kagan will be joining us to deliver a keynote presentation at the Trinity Health and Education International Research Conference #THEconf2026 which takes place 3-5 March 2026.
Professor Kagan is the Lucy Walker Honorary Term Professor of Gerontological Nursing at @PennNursing and a Gerontological Clinical Nurse Specialist at the Abramson Cancer Center (@PennCancer). She holds honorary appointments in Armenia, Hong Kong, and the UK, focusing on aging, health, and improving care for older adults.
Editor in Chief of the International Journal of Older People Nursing and member of five editorial boards, Professor Kagan earned degrees from the University of Chicago, Rush University, and UCSF (MSN, PhD). Her work centers on aging, chronic illness, and sustainable healthcare. A 2003 MacArthur Fellow, she has also received the Sigma Theta Tau Founders Award (2005) and an Honorary Doctor of Science from Oxford Brookes University (2013).
