Being 12/13 & not knowing how to identify shapes is super concerning though. Parents don’t talk to teachers & review homework no more? No helping them study?

If your child is struggling academic it is your responsibility to get them on track be it getting them a tutor or placing them in special educational classes. But the least you should do as a parent is be aware of your child’s academic progress.
Parents are your first teachers, they are supposed to set you up for educational success. Children should not be entering school not knowing their numbers and alphabet.
