Anger and frustration can feel powerful in the moment, but when they take over, they often pull us away from peak performance. When the nervous system stays in a state of dysregulation, the body shifts into a threat response, making it harder to think clearly& process information
Are your thoughts helping you perform? Every thought should be evaluated. Is this leading me toward clarity, confidence, and better execution? Or is it pulling me into a loop that creates fear, tension, and worse outcomes? Hold the thought captive before it holds you
Most coaches don’t have a buy-in problem. They have an alignment problem. When athletes know you’re truly about helping them become who they say they want to become, trust gets easier. Buy-in starts when they know your plan serves their future, not just your system.
Great staffs recognize when an assistant coach, mentor, or support staff member may be a better bridge for honest feedback and connection. The goal is creating an environment where the athlete feels heard, understood, and supported enough to grow.
Sometimes the biggest block between you and the athlete is the title “Head Coach.” That title can naturally create pressure, fear of consequences, or hesitation to be fully honest. Psychological safety is not always about how much you care , it’s about how safe the athlete feels
