Wow, @tdsb secretly changed their website!
A few weeks ago, it said that 50% of the spots were reserved for only one local school.
Now it is says that this reservation is for the local catchment area.
Any explanation to the parents and public for this secret change? @rchernoslin
@DerikChica@DrPeiTO Derek Chica was part of the equity committee that pushed for this agenda. BTW, I wonder if he has any experience in the arts at a high level. My guess is no.
@DerikChica@DrPeiTO It is too bad that you are belittling Dr Pei and his concern with the lottery system. He has a right to have a concern and tackle this issue if he wants to. Similar to how you have a right to be concerned with Palestine and you are tackling this issue because it is important 4 U
@StephMDonaldson Ryan bird specifically said during an interview that tdsb wants to strengthen elementary schools. However, 10% of all elementary schools have either lost their IMIs or the P completely changed how music was to be delivered. Thousands of students are without an opportunity.
@StephMDonaldson Of course, everything comes down to money. The vote you made to "reallocate" IMI hours to be more "equitable" resulted in 44 music programs shutting down this school year (up from 37). You are 100% responsible for this as you voted in favour. Please do not pass the buck.
@RobinPilkey@MacLeanWard2 Robin, I heard you are not running for re-election as a trustee. Great news. I will always remember you as the trustee who actively cut the arts in the tdsb. Such a shame that this is the only legacy you are leaving behind. Especially when so many IMIs worked with your own kids.
@shelleylaskin Completely out of touch with reality. Your decisions as a trustee annihilated 40 music programs in the tdsb. 27 IMI programs and 13 contract teachers. Joy? Belonging? Engagement? They will no longer be present in the 40 tdsb schools. A few of them are in your riding.
@shelleylaskin@BrinleyFellows That's fine. I would rather see the trustees do the best they can in order to protect the schools as opposed to bending over backwards and allow the government to annihilate schools. Laskin, please do your job this time.
@inspiredkinder @KelleyMaharaj@calphonso 5) Adding another music position that is cancelled for next school year in tdsb elementary school. It was a very well established strings program that ran successfully for many decades. The count is now 30 music programs cancelled in elementary school for TDSB. Where's the equity
@inspiredkinder @KelleyMaharaj@calphonso 4) I can even show you a list and you can confirm with each school if you don't believe me. TDSB should be supporting elementary music programs. They are actively trying to cut it from our schools. This policy will do just that for our secondary schools - cut music completely.
@inspiredkinder @KelleyMaharaj@calphonso 3) There are 29 music positions that are not running next year in elementary schools in TDSB. That is only among colleagues I know. Nobody knows the actual number of music positions that have been cancelled for next school year.
@inspiredkinder @KelleyMaharaj@calphonso 2) This policy will not overcome the lack of good programming in elementary schools. Funding elementary school programs and protecting arts positions will help overcome the lack of good arts programming in elementary schools. Use your common sense.
@inspiredkinder @KelleyMaharaj@calphonso 1) Agreedthere should not be a lack of "strong arts programs" in any community. However, if you visit schools in underprivileged communities, this is unfortunately a fact. Homeroom teachers with no experience with music teaching music, dance and drama barely getting covered, etc.
