Ito ang hiling ni Senator-judge Robin Padilla sa kalagitnaan ng pagtatanong niya kay lead prosecutor Gerville Luistro sa ika-9 na araw ng impeachment trial ni Vice President Sara Duterte.

Sa isang press conference matapos ang trial, sinagot ito ni Luistro at sinabing mas nakapagtataka raw kung ipagtatanggol nila ang respondent. #VPonTrial

Hadlang ba ang confidentiality sa kapangyarihan ng impeachment court?

Sa trial kahapon, ating binigyang-diin: “The Constitution vests the impeachment court with extraordinary powers… No person, law, or administrative rule can limit or supersede it. Nothing and no one can handcuff this court's power to try and decide this impeachment case.”

Ang Bank Secrecy Law ay tumatalima sa impeachment court. Ayon mismo sa batas, “All deposits are hereby considered as of an absolutely confidential nature, except in cases of impeachment."

Ganoon din ang Data Privacy Act. Malinaw na sinasabi ng batas na hindi pwedeng idahilan ang privacy "should the personal information be needed pursuant to a subpoena."

Walang duda na may karapatan at kapangyarihan ang impeachment court na ipa-subpoena ang mga bank records, tax records, at Anti-Money Laundering Council reports kaugnay ni VP Sara.

Sa ganitong paraan, madedesisyunan nito ang kaso base sa buong katotohanan.

In 2020, 4 people were arrested after posting online what were considered death threats against then President Duterte.

1. Public school teacher Ronnel Mas of Zambales was charged with incitement to sedition after posting he would give P50 million to anyone who could kill Duterte.

2. Joemarc Ebcay of Ozamiz was charged with sedition after he posted a Facebook comment offering P150 million to anyone who could kill Duterte.

3. Ronald Quiboyen, a construction worker, was arrested for allegedly writing on Facebook that he would give P100 million.

4. Maria Catherine Ceron of Cebu was also arrested for allegedly offering P75 million to kill Duterte.

PAANO KA HINDI KAKAININ NG SISTEMA?

In his commencement speech to the graduates of UP Law 2026, Mayor Vico Sotto shared that he is always asked by people how he keeps his integrity. They ask for his advice on the age old question of:

“Paano kami hindi kakainin ng sistema?”

As a result, he shared ten things he does or thinks about regularly to avoid being eaten by the system.

Here are the TEN THINGS that Mayor Vico Sotto does or follows to keep his integrity:

1. Preparation is more important than courage.

2. Make a list of non-negotiables and review them regularly.

3. When in doubt, choose faith conscience and integrity over money power and ambition.

4. Study cognitive dissonance and continuously identify how and where it affects you. Your decision-making and opinion-forming.

5. Get out of your echo chamber from time to time.

6. Check your ego every single day.

7. Have people in your life who share the same or similar principles, values, and beliefs.

8. Allow said people in #7 to keep you grounded.

9. Give these people the license to hold you accountable.

10. Have a healthy level of respect but also be willing to go against the status quo.
