Deadlines should never be finite, if we know our students we will understand why they need an extension and we can teach them the importance of advocating for themselves if they need more time. If they ask I always listen #TuesdayThoughts#teachertwitter#edchat
Student: "I hope you don't mind me turning this in tomorrow instead. My brain is fried."
Me: I'm fine with tomorrow or tomorrow or tomorrow.
We can always give our kids another tomorrow. Always. Deadlines and due dates are artificial ends. Empathy exceeds. Empathy endures.
Step one: Set a target. 🎯
Step two: Make a plan. 📝
Step three: See it through! ✅
This table invites Ss to take charge of their own learning journeys!

@studentreasures@support_a_teach My fav writing project was a paper discussion. Students write their answers on their paper then passed it around the group commenting on each other’s. We did a similar assignment with story writing. A great way involve quiet students and share ideas
Wonder if this would work.
I do it - virtual direct instruction
We do it - in person collaboration
You do it - virtual practice
We do it - in person feedback and reflection

@GotmTeaches Can you imagine how it might totally alter the perspective of Ts? Instead of being taught to “manage” students, teaching credential Ss how to lead, how to facilitate. How we might be able to create a strong class culture and learning community?
What a profound thought..”If teachers were trained on leadership styles and techniques...would they have more success working with students?” I think yes. Teachers are leaders of learning and of Ss but I learned how to lead by trial and error #teachertwitter#edchat
@TeachingLoL5 You are so right. I know I would not have the buy in without the relationships. If my Ss didn’t get the chance to understand Emmy teaching style how will they know my tone, my intent, or my heart for them! I don’t think I would be able to motivate them
@henneld_edu I love the idea of treating it like an orientation. Leading by example and showing what we will be doing. I also appreciate doing half days. I think Ts and Ss will end up exhausted by mid day if we dive right back in. These are awesome ideas!!
@MoriartyHistory YES! I do my best to offer resources and opportunities. But I think you are right, they need to see the value themselves. I hope to ask Ss to express their needs and thoughts to their teachers. We are doing it in my class and it’s been eye opening.
A2 my greatest fear is that nothing will change. Teachers will go back to how they always did it and then if we have to go to #distancelearning again those students will suffer. I think we need to shift how we teach to better help students #CrazyPLN
@donna_mccance@RavesiWeinstein@MatthewXJoseph I think self care for Ts and Ss needs to be prioritized. I also worry we will he asked to go back to #distancelearning at the drop of the dime I’ll prepared again. Our best bet is to prepare for being remote again. Setting up Ss to be more successful this time I hope
@ClassCastPod@timneedles Teaching Ss that what they do and their choices matters beyond the school walls. I agree making things creative is key. Taking in to consideration what Ss might want to learn and how they would like express what they know has been a cornerstone for me. This has exposed manythings
@MatthewXJoseph Yes! And I think we all did this better than many thought we could. I have not heard of one teacher that did not do their best to show up daily 🙌🏼
