@stephtweet5 A care worker earning 25k contributes more to society than an estate agent earning 49k.

Imagine this: You’re involved in a catastrophic accident. Your back breaks, and in a split second, you lose the ability to walk or use your hands. The comfortable life you built vanishes overnight.

As the months pass, your friends drift away to focus on their own lives. You don’t have a partner or children to rely on. You sit alone in a quiet room, completely dependent on the kindness of strangers.

Now, there is only one person who steps into your room every morning with a genuine smile to bathe you, feed you, and give you your independence back.

That person is the exact same care worker you wanted deported a few years ago simply because you didn't like where they came from or the color of their skin.

It is easy to dismiss social care as a political debate until life forces you to rely on the dignity, humanity, and compassion of the very people you once turned your back on.

It’s Christmas morning. You are 80 years old, frail, and estranged from your children, spending the day entirely alone.

There is only one person who is going to walk through your door: your care worker.

You are genuinely excited just to have someone to talk to, someone to wish you a Merry Christmas. They gently help you wash, prepare a warm breakfast, and make sure you take your medicine on time. Their presence cuts through the cold and isolation, warming up the room and you look up and sincerely thank them for simply being there.

This is a snapshot of our collective future. Care workers are not abstract numbers on a spreadsheet or a political talking point; they are the human thread holding our society together.

It is easy to dismiss their value from a distance, but the true measure of a care worker's impact becomes entirely clear the moment someone you love or you yourself badly needs that lifeline. They deserve security, fairness, and respect.

@begottensun Don't jump on the racist bandwagon.

We asked them to come and relied on them to keep local social care running after COVID. Expecting migrant care workers to bathe, feed, and protect our vulnerable population while pulling the rug on their settlement rights after 5 years is short sighted and wrong. Because of care workers, British families have been able to keep their jobs, working full time and not worry about leaving work to care for a family member

@ZiaYusufUK Calling it a "betrayal" ignores the reality on the ground: domestic workers won't take these grueling, intimate care roles regardless of wage arguments. Carers keep NHS beds from blocking and care homes running. Driving them out overnight isn't tough it's self sabotage.

HORRIFIC SCENE IN FLORIDA: A Learjet 60 business jet traveling from Austin, Texas, to the Bahamas has crashed into a neighborhood near West Palm Beach.
US Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy confirmed that all 9 people on board tragically lost their lives when the aircraft nose dived and exploded into flames near a busy roadway in Greenacres.
Emergency crews are on the scene right now. More details are emerging as the FAA and NTSB launch an investigation.

Low salary does not mean low value. Social care workers bathe, feed, and look after vulnerable people daily so British families can work.

If you force out hundreds of thousands of care staff after years of service, who fills those posts tomorrow? You can't demand functioning social care while driving away the exact workforce holding it together.

[Josh Mhofu @TechMhofu]

Expecting care staff to pay IHS fees while they literally keep our health and social care services functioning makes zero sense.

Their economic value isn't just their income tax band it's preventing total gridlock in NHS hospitals and allowing millions of family carers to stay in work. You can't run a society solely on high earning tech/finance visas.

[Josh Mhofu @TechMhofu]

Labeling vital care staff as a "burden" misses the point. They pay taxes, fill essential gaps that domestic recruitment hasn't met, and prevent NHS hospital bed blocking. Expecting people to do the toughest physical and emotional jobs in society with zero long term security is how you break the care sector completely.

@KumarSanga2 @Ryanair Coming from Kumar, that carries a lot of weight. Unfortunately, terrible customer service and aggressive gate staff seem to be a standard experience with @Ryanair these days.

@mr_shimmy There is no law in South Africa that explicitly bans taking photographs or video footage of people in genuinely public spaces (such as streets, public parks, beaches, or open public squares)
