re: Ebert occasionally "missing" on a great movie, I think people forget that the point of criticizing art is not to be "correct," it's to engage with the work sincerely; a critic should be evaluated less on "correctness" and more the consistency/depth of their work
@minimagnus2 It's my own fault for not mentioning it at the time that the extremes of faith and hope eventually loop back into hopelessness.
The penitent engine's mortifier variant is even worse since it's a punishment specifically for the faithful too.
@TimSweeneyEpic@Filmbot Forced political disclosures and its being transparent with customers about what's in a product being sold to them.
Bro thinks he's talkin to his chatbot again.
It's also nice to have stories where even the faithful question their place in it. It's human to have self-doubts and try to make sense of things through what we know.
It might force a change in you, redefine your perspective or utterly destroy you. All good angles for stories.
I see the point Ian's making, but the thing about "faith" in the broader warhammer picture is that it's so integral to the world.
In a universe that is uncaring, dystopic and hopeless, it's faith that contrasts these aspects. Because without it, what are we fighting for?
How would this even work? Faith is extremely important to the chaos side of things so why would only Imperial/loyalists faith be useless? Also faith is deeply interwoven with emotion and should by all accounts have a massive impact in the Warp.
I see his point that it does feel a little too superhero sometimes and it DOES contradict stuff like in Pariah Nexus,
but that's the thing; faith has become so overwhelmingly present that miracles actually happen.
"It just works."
@DYorgy Ah yes, "dark skinned commander" and it's Jonah Orion, the Blood Ravens now current chief librarian who first appeared in Dawn of War 2.
I swear these people are just on perpetual auto-pilot.
I know that signing that mass effect petition won't necessarily mean much, but I was there when people pushed just as hard to change ME3's endings, which was massive at the time.
I was witness to that, so I'll damn well be witness to this as well and whatever comes after.
A BioWare dev on reddit leaked a Mass Effect 5 trailer... it's called MASS EFFECT UNIVERSE and it's fucking gorgeous. I'm crying. This is everything I wanted. They were a lot farther than we thought. FUCK EA
@beardedreviewer So yet another studio with a long history is thrown to the corpse pile, and now we have clowns running around trying to justify it as 'deserved' when none of it is their own failure or even their own choice.
It's just cost cutting in the coldest, most banal way.
I've been expecting the bell of the saudi buyout to toll for a while now and here it is plain as day.
A lot of people are gonna spin this as something else as the reason but no; this is all Electronic Arts, as it has always been for 15 years.
Private equity just accelerates it.
@beardedreviewer No grand success from any studio, successful or not, is gonna hail mary this either.
EA will cut everything down to the bone if it has to, and that puts Respawn, DICE and every other studio under the same knife.
