The amazing @susannacrowe starts the @BICSoc conference with why leadership and culture are so important. That each and everyone of us has a responsibility to be part of developing a kind, supportive and safe culture

These statistics aren’t changing. Louise K rightly states from our forum.. ‘1 in 4-5 experience mental illness in pregnancy and yet 1 specialist midwife. In our trust we have 4 diabetes midwives and that is a condition that effects 1 in 23 pregnancies.’ We need change NOW 4/4
Upsetting to read the latest #mbrrace report. Suicide remains leading cause of death up to one year post birth for women and birthing people and 3x more likely to die compared to previous reports 1/4
This afternoon, the Health Secretary @SteveBarclay will give a speech suggesting that maternity services should be 'deprioritised'. Our response in the thread below

⭐️ congrats to Sally Dauncey who was awarded a CMIdO Gold award today for her significant contribution to the Midwifery profession and 50 yrs service to the NHS 👏🏻⭐️ @ChelwestFT@ihpch@TeamCMidO @katebrintworth
Domestic abuse affects an estimated 1.3 million women each year, with around 30% of domestic abuse beginning during pregnancy. It's important that we understand how this impacts women's maternal mental health and the ability to access support.
Services need to be culturally sensitive. Brilliant points made by @BenashNaz about working with communities that Trusts serve to ensure they fit the need. ‘Listen to hear, not to respond’ @fivexmore equally point out importance of listening to women and birthing people.
