HBO asked to buy my fire footage back in 2019 and again in 2021. I politely refused. It was meant for #Hotshot, only.

So they asked if they could hire me to go and film some new wildfire footage just for them, to capture what I'd captured for my film. So we priced out what it would take to do that for real real...

You have to hire me to be on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week from July to mid-November, because you never know when a fire is going to pop. If you want the crazy shit, you have to get there quickly. If the tone goes out at 2AM, your boots are by the bed and you're gone.

Can't make no plans, can't enjoy any summer holidays...and there's a decent chance that you could pay me to be on standby around the clock for a month straight, and we don't get a single frame of footage. Because that's how it be. And if the Thomas Fire busts out, you ain't enjoying Christmas, either.

Oh, and you have to rent 3 REDs, insure them, insure my Jeep, pay for fuel to drive up and down the entire state to the Oregon border and back, and all that for the prospect that you might not get a single frame. And you have to pay me full time in the off-season to train every day, do the Hotshot PT hike with a weight vest so I can physically keep up with these psychopaths.

It took me 6 years of that lifestyle to capture what you see in our film. Then lord knows how many bottles of whiskey @PhilDonlon1 and I went through trying to cut 6 years of footage into a story. Priced out for real, there ain't no way you're making that film under $10M.

Hollywood literally couldn't make this film. Many have tried. The Deadliest Catch crew tried to do a Hotshot show several years back. They didn't make it through one day.

Hotshots earn their name. This isn't the kinda subject you can carpet-bag your way into.

Hollywood could never make this film.
