The question is how can the 'African based' Companies gain credibility to compete with these large companies. And unless all African countries agree on banning foreign companies from mining resources from their countries, removing them in South Africa is currently not an option.

The same logic applies with the local economy, one prefers to buy supplies from large retailers (e.g Shoprite/Checkers) than the local 'X' supermarket because of the idea that the large known retailer will always have in abundance the utilities needed.
