BREAKING: HIDE IN SHAME! Trump hangs up tacky tarps with photos to camouflage his new column "renovations" at the White House — and they aren't fooling anyone.

It's the Kennedy Center all over again...

Pictures of construction workers hanging up the tarps, which feature images of the columns, are spreading like wildfire on social media. They erected scaffolding around the North Portico last month and are now moving forward with the President's latest vanity project.

A White House official insisted that the undertaking is just "standard restoration" but by now we know better than to believe a single word uttered by this pathologically dishonest administration. In fact, Trump himself has admitted that he prefers a more ornate style of pillars (read: gaudy, ugly, and tasteless). If this turns out to be a simple renovation, we'll eat our hat.

Don't be surprised if, when those tarps come down, the columns have been spray-painted gold with tacky trim glued on. Just look at what Trump has done to the Oval Office. His awful aesthetics are creeping like a plague through the entire building.

This column fiasco is just one part of Trump's larger egomaniacal obsession with leaving a physical legacy behind since he has no achievements to his name. It's why he's building his ballroom with our tax dollars, why he tried (and failed) to renovate the Reflecting Pool, and why he attempted (in vain) to rebrand the Kennedy Center. He's terrified of his own mortality.

The most honest sentence in this whole story is not from Trump. It is from the business associate who watched him loiter on Fifth Avenue hoping strangers would recognize him: "Trump is never happy, unless he's unhappy. He needs and thrives off the enemy, and the more public the enemy is, the better he feels."

That was written about a man promoting a ghostwritten book in 1987. It reads like a diagnosis of the last decade of American politics. The fake campaign was a marketing stunt. The appetite it revealed was not fake at all, and nobody involved seemed to notice they were feeding something that does not stop eating.
