PM Modi said people to do work from home, stop buying gold, stop going on foreign vacations, cut fuel uses, all this to stop rupees from falling.
An open letter.
Work from home - Modi ji you're in power, you've to make law otherwise companies HR, real estate Mafia will not agree for WFH
Stop buying gold - Modi ji, please guarantee that central banks won't buy gold either otherwise gold price will keep going up and common public will have to buy at higher prices later.
Stop going on foreign vacation: Modi ji, I hope you're aware of our public infra, we don't even have clean public toilets at most of the tourist places in India, there is a reason why people are forced to go out of country for vacation.
Cut the fuel uses: Modi ji, have you seen condition of public transport? Trains tickets are not available, metro last mile connectivity aren't there, no restriction on cabs surge pricing, you think people use private vehicles just for luxury? No, they're forced to do that.
Be it demonetization, Lockdown or Covid, everytime Govt is in trouble, you ask public to support and they do but what about Govt? People vote Govt so that they work peacefully, pay tax and Govt work for people not the other way around. You're in power for 12 years and that's a lot of time.
And how about reducing LTCG, STCG and STT to attract FII flow, that will also help rupees to get stronger, atleast you start first.
No, madam. High income tax rates in itself isn't suppression. But,
- Squeezing the same 2% population of direct taxes without making any effort to expand the base is suppression.
- Not providing any Social security to those who gift half their income to you as tax, is not suppression but pure exploitation.
If "जले प नमक छिड़कना" had a face, it'd sure look like yours, Madam FM. @nsitharaman
In Parliament today I proposed optional Joint filing of Income Tax Returns for married couples.
Family A
Both spouses earn ₹10 lakh each.
Total household income is ₹20 lakh.
Tax: zero
Family B
One spouse earns ₹20 lakh. The other stays home to raise their child.
Total household income is ₹20 lakh.
Tax: ₹1.92 lakh
The only difference is how the salary is split between the two spouses.
One roof. One kitchen. One household budget. But when tax time comes, the family disappears.
The tax system sees two individuals. A husband and wife become strangers. No clubbing of income or rebates.
In Parliament today I proposed optional joint filing of Income Tax Returns for married couples, so families with uneven incomes are not unfairly penalised. If implemented, then Family A and Family B both will pay Zero Tax.
Let's calculate because I'm not a lockdown kid and also I can get slab rates from internet and do basic calculations.
Consider a person earning 12L in 2014, paying rent 2.5L and 80C limit at 1L, 80D 15K, 80EE 1L, 80CCG 50K all in per year basis.
Now if your remove all deduction and expemption, his taxable income based on last Budget by Manmohan Singh Govt would be 7.7L on which he would be paying 86.5K as tax.
Now since we are in 2026, let's consider a generous inflation of 7%, although home, medical and education inflation is more than 10%. Now same person would be earning 27L inflation adjusted salary.
Let's calculate the tax in 2026 - On 27L salary based on "highly relaxed" tax structure by Modi Govt he would be paying 3.8L income tax in new regime.
So basically we are paying 4times tax on a 2 times increase in salary.
PS: I usually ignore such post but today I spent 30 mins to do all the calculation because this myth that "No tax upto 12L" needs to busted.
The personal income tax collection must come down.
Tax payers didn't increase but tax increased 5 times.
They squeezed the same tax payer month after month.
I make humble appeal to all salaried class and unite and hit their tax collection as hard as we can.
@datta_arvind@gkundra Sir, what's your view on ABSL AMC? Harish Krishnan recently joined ABSL AMC as equity head from Kotak AMC. Even ABSL's schemes start improving its performance.
