On this day in 1944 German troops of the Waffen-SS Division "Das Reich" massacre 642 civilians in Oradour-sur-Glane as a reprisal for the execution of one of their commanders. The village remains as a memorial to the victims. My photo taken 12th August 2016.
@DanielPriestley In my comprehensive school in c.1980 only 10% of pupils were "taught" economics. I was one of the 10%, with the teacher dictating from a book, with little explanation. Despite that it was still far more useful than French, for example, which was compulsory.
