Nine months after the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources revoked the lease of a licensed mining company in Prestea-Huni Valley, the mine is now being fully operated by a group of illegal miners connected to the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Led by Ebenezer Amemegakpor, an NDC activist in the Prestea-Huni Valley Constituency, the illegal miners took over RMG Mining Company’s Apinto concession in March 2025 after National Security stormed the underground mine.

When in power (office), party lawyers defend the wrongful acts of politicians. Sometimes they know these acts are wrong, but they know the politicians do not know the law, so they mislead them.

When out of power (office), these politicians begin to be prosecuted for their wrongful acts.
Then these same lawyers create jobs for themselves: as criminal defense lawyers for these politicians.

In the end, the lawyers are playing a long game with their politicians. Getting them into trouble, then pretending to be getting them out of trouble.

So I tell current NDC political office holders. Be careful of the NDC lawyers who now defend your wrongful conduct.

When you are one day undergoing prosecution for these wrongful acts, they will be taking legal fees in the name of representing you in court.

When you are jailed and in prison, they will still be in their wig and gown roaming the courts looking for new clients.

Today, these lawyers are defending you for making wrongful deductions from the NSS allowance of personnel. Tomorrow, when you are being prosecuted, they will charge you legal fees, and you will pay with the money you've looted.
In the end, the lawyers are the ones benefiting.

A society in which the masses defend authoritarian lifestyles cannot sustain a democracy.

If the masses find justification in supporting a government that denies an individual access to education because of his hairstyle, such a society cannot find wisdom in defending free speech.

At the core, the people of Ghana are responsible for how their society has turned.

You cannot learn to demand better of your leaders if you are scared of offending them. In a democracy, insult is part of the accountability process.
