Restoration, seeds, Pilbara, desert ecology and mining rehabilitation @kingspark_wa Science & @ScienceUWA School of Biological Sciences. Views are my own.
Our new paper shows seed enhancement approaches work, buts it’s dependent on site legacies and other restoration treatments (i.e. soil ripping and herbicide applications). Check it out here -> https://t.co/2HHxcoJPdT @Vanessa_Brown_s@alisonlritchie S. Mastrantonis R. Hobbs
Identifying areas of high drought risk in southwest Western Australia! In a new paper with @DPIRDWA and @NACC_NRM we use publicly available spatial data to show that the northern and eastern wheatbelt are at highest risk from drought. Find it here: https://t.co/Z8Tp9SKN47

@Dr_Rob_Davis@lost_in_botany Yes. Many sticky seeds - most swell up when hydrated (stickiness generally is mucilage which swells when wet - know it from Brassicaceae, Goodeniaceae, Nyctaginaceae). Some suggest this helps dispersal by ‘sticking’ to animals or water retention to improve germination.
Its about flaming time !!
New paper demonstrates flash flaming is a valid seed enhancement.
Send through any burning Qs you may have ;)

Coming soon! The publication date for our book, #LowCarbonBirding, compiled and edited by @javiercaletrio, is just days away. The first copies have arrived @pelagicpublish and they look fantastic! This is a diverse and persuasive collection of essays about responsible birding.
Congrats to @JulieELarson, one of the @ESArestore early career publication award winners! For the paper, Julie counted THOUSANDS of seeds over the years to explore how functional ecology drives success in restoration. Find her at #ESA2022!
