@Teslamojo Same definitely a massive stepdown with 14.3.3. but it was already bad before that speed profiles have been really bad. 14.1.7 I thought the speed profiles were pretty great, unfortunately I updated.
@Tesla_AI not sure what needs to be done to correct this, technically FSD didn't do anything wrong by passing the car on the shoulder, but obviously not the correct thing to do in this situation?
@DBurkland I've noticed this as well, but on the flip side of it once it nags you in standard then it seems to pay extra attention for a short time. So if like you get a nag and then you continue doing whatever it nagged you for it's going to nag even more.
I'm also at over 90% with 12,000 miles on version 14. I love FSD but it doesn't make it less frustrating.
Most of my issues stem from the speed profiles in the lack of consistency in the lack of reason in them.
For me to have the choice of seven over the speed limit or 18 is insane. That's not a balanced set of profiles. Those same profiles on side roads have a speed differential of just a couple miles an hour which makes no sense.
Honestly most of Tesla's issues right now with FSD and people's complaints are self-inflicted. They could give us the offsets give us the offsets back for one profile.
Imagine going into a car dealership and them telling you that yeah it has cruise control but you can only set it at 0, 3, 7, 18, or 25 over the limit. We drive the most advanced self-driving software on the planet and you're telling me that those are the options we get? It's crazy to me. @Tesla_AI
I have been pretty hard on FSD lately, and I want to explain why that is.
I use FSD constantly and truly appreciate the incredible work being done by the team, but I wanted to explain my recent frustrations and offer a suggestion for improvement.
My primary issue is with the current speed profiles, as they often require manual intervention due to a lack of balance. I find that "Standard" is generally too lethargic and slow, while "Hurry" and "Mad Max" drive excessively fast on highways and on some side roads. There doesn't seem to be a middle ground that feels natural for both side roads and highways.
I believe providing users with offset control or rebalancing the profiles would significantly improve the user experience. My suggestion for speed offsets would be:
- Chill: 3–5 mph over
- Standard: 9 mph over (the "sweet spot")
- Hurry: 10–15 mph over
- Mad Max: 15–25 mph over
Applying approximately half of these offsets for residential or city streets would make the transitions feel much more consistent. @Tesla_AI
I really give you guys credit for your cross country trip. It must take absolute immense patience to let FSD drive 100% of the time.
How did you guys address navigation errors. I've been driving to the same job site for the past 6 months to a new construction house on an existing property, the last right hand turn right before I get to the job site my cyber truck now gets in the turn lane just before it's about to make the right turn panics and makes a hard left back into traffic and then takes a 5-minute detour around the entire Bay instead of going directly to the house. Did you run into things like that on your trip or the car would just take you on wild goose chases and extend your trip? Like I can't go 5 minutes without it doing something stupid where I have to take over I don't see how it's even possible to drive across the country with it unless you just let it waste your time? So did you guys have hours of extra driving due to FSD just meandering around places?
@mahkus Even if 14.3.3 *did* make that turn correctly (which it probably won't), it would compensate by worsening 10 other things. While 14.3.3 includes improvements, it achieves them by making other aspects significantly worse.
After communicating with a lot of people across the country, fsd's behavior Changes based on the area you are. So my experience isn't exactly the same as yours which is pretty crazy you would think it would be the same across the country. I found that hurry for me on our highway drives insanely fast but other people have said that they're hurry only goes 9 or 10 over. I wish there was an adjustment we could make because that would fix so many issues.
My final observation of this trip, fsd 14.3.3 in standard refuses to go over the speed limit on its own anywhere but the interstate. This was not the way it was on 14.3.2. so whatever change they made is made standard pretty much fucking useless. Hurry seems to be a little better on side roads but also get stuck lumbering along at the speed limit. But does seem more balanced when it actually does work and go above the speed limit. I don't use mad Max. Interstates though it is the same 7 over for standard and 18 over for hurry. Again I'm on the side road right now 50 mile an hour zone 50 mph right on the dock for standard. I don't know why they thought that was a needed change but it fucking really sucks!
Well it's official after a 5-hour road trip today I would no longer recommend using FSD. This has been the most frustrating 5-hour drive I've ever had. I stopped using FSD. The speed profiles are such an absolute fucking joke. I'm more frustrated now than I ever have been driving. @Tesla_AI
You took something so beautiful tesla AI and made it the most frustrating bullshit software to use. Add that stupid fucking intervention pop up that doesn't remove unless you do something about it and what a joyous drive it's been. Sprinkle a little dry white session in there for the cybertruck and geez what a great day.
I am currently on a five-hour road trip through rural Minnesota and wanted to share my feedback regarding version 14.3.3.
My primary concern is the performance of the speed profiles on rural roads. In 60 MPH zones, the "Standard" profile is very inconsistent, often sticking to 57 or 62 MPH. Similarly, "Hurry" frequently fails to exceed 60 MPH when exiting low-speed zones. "Mad Max" is currently the only profile that exceeds the speed limit without manual accelerator intervention. These inconsistencies, including several instances where the system failed to update the speed limit after leaving a town, have made the drive quite demanding.
I also observed some interesting behavior regarding driver attentiveness nags. While testing the limits of the "Standard" profile, I noticed the system does not seem to trigger a nag for phone use, yet it will quickly alert me if I interact with the vehicle's screen or fidget with other items.
Overall, the need for constant intervention has made this trip less relaxing than expected. I hope these insights are helpful for future updates.
I polished this with AI because I swore too much in the first draft and was not nearly as nice as it wrote it. Super frustrating!
@MrNiceGuyHaHa I wish adjusting the speed limit offset actually did what you think it does. But what it does is absolutely nothing. There's a 50 mile per hour range from + 30 to minus 20. Try going to the extremes and see if it changes anything because it won't.
