🦋 “I Will Always Love You”… but make it BLUEGRASS. 🥹❤️

This is becoming my favorite version. The fiddle, mandolin, Dobro… that gorgeous mountain-music sound underneath Dolly’s voice. Just exquisite.

I pulled out just a clip of the most beautiful part of the arrangement. 💕

I am almost certain the first sentence he ever spoke was a roast.

"Why am I talking to you? I don't even like you"

Don Rickles walks onto Carson’s 10th anniversary underdressed, calls the whole thing a kakamemi affair, went on to attack everyone, even the audience then spends the last half minute telling Johnny he was the first man who let him on late night TV.

Watch the closer, That is a roast that actually means it.

Who on a talk show now would risk both halves in one take?

One of my favorite trio reunions ever. 🤍✨ Dolly Parton, Willie Nelson & Kenny Rogers.

Three legends, three old friends, singing each other’s biggest hits.

🎶 “9 to 5”, "Coat of Many Colors", The Gambler”, "On the Road Again" ...and more.

My daughter and I used to watch The Golden Girls together all the time, and even now I still find myself stopping to watch whenever I come across an episode. ❤️

What really gets me about this clip is Betty White asking what happens when there is only one of them left. Looking back now, they passed away in the same order they were sitting, with Betty being the last one still here. Estelle Getty in 2008, Bea Arthur in 2009, Rue McClanahan in 2010, and then Betty held on for another 11 years. 🥹

It is one of those moments that feels completely different once you know how their story ended. They made millions of us laugh, and for me they will always be tied to memories of watching them with my daughter. ❤️

So why the fuck wasn’t this queen hosting EVERYTHING this entire time 😩

[Dope thrills @essa_muse]

John Wayne just appears. No announcement, no chair waiting.

Carson looks up like the Duke walked out of a Western and into his living room.

They talk about the Shootist, Carson City and a Wall Street Journal piece Wayne liked.

Wayne is already dying and still sounds like he has all the time in the world.

He came to say congratulations and left before he overstayed.

Watch how little he needs the camera.

That is what an actual movie star looked like when he didn’t have to sell anything.

Only John Wayn can walk into a talk show stage unannounced and have the host attention on command.

Respect well earned.

Where it all started for Dolly Parton

[💖🌼Music, Kindness, and Inspiring Stories @Hoainguyen888]

Three great singers walk onto the same song, and nobody tries to own it.

That may be the most interesting thing about this performance.

When Dolly Parton, Linda Ronstadt and Emmylou Harris sing together, the obvious temptation is to turn it into a contest. Who has the prettiest voice? Who sounds the most emotional? Who gets the moment that everyone remembers?

But watch them closely and that competition never really arrives.

Instead, they seem to understand something that a lot of superstar collaborations forget: sometimes the best thing a singer can do is leave enough room for somebody else.

Dolly brings her unmistakable way of delivering a song, where even a simple phrase feels like it has a story sitting behind it. Linda's voice has a different kind of clarity, smoother and more effortless on the surface. Emmylou brings that fragile, almost conversational quality that can make a line feel as though it was spoken rather than performed.

Those differences are exactly what make the combination work.

They don't try to erase the differences.

And you can hear that in the way the voices meet. Nobody sounds like they're trying to prove, listen to what I can do. The singing feels remarkably unforced. One voice arrives, another joins it, and the song gets a little wider without becoming louder just for the sake of being louder.

That is harder than it sounds.

Three distinctive voices can easily turn a duet or trio into an exhibition. Each singer wants the big note. Each wants the emotional climax. Each wants the camera to find her at the right moment.

Here, the pleasure comes from almost the opposite instinct.

They let the song move between them.

There is something wonderfully old-fashioned about that. Before every collaboration had to feel like an “event,” singers could simply stand together and sing. No elaborate attempt to manufacture rivalry. No need to establish a winner. The arrangement does not have to announce who is important because everyone in the room already knows.

And that makes the performance feel intimate despite the presence of three major stars.

You aren't watching three careers collide.

You're watching three personalities temporarily agree to serve the same piece of music.

That distinction matters.

Dolly doesn't have to sound like Linda. Linda doesn't have to sound like Emmylou. Emmylou doesn't have to compete with either of them. Their individual identities remain completely intact, but the song becomes the one thing that belongs to all three.

Maybe that's why collaborations like this can age so well. The fashions change. The television production changes. The microphones, hairstyles and clothes eventually become historical details.

But the instinct remains recognizable.

You meet someone who is every bit as good as you are, and you have two choices.

You can spend the whole evening proving that you're better.

Or you can listen.

These three chose the second one.

And somehow, the music got bigger because of it.
