Factories aren't built over night. Production moved overseas because it was cheaper. American-made will be a lot more expensive for the same product

@hankgreen i think you hyperfocused on the gray wolf being the closest relative of dire wolves too much. The research I read said that all extant canines are closer to each other than any are to dire wolves. It'd be like arguing if chimps or bonobos are closer to humans.

@hankgreen So gray wolves are tied as the closest relative of dire wolves with multiple other species. If they're coincidentally the closest in morphology and ecological niche from convergent evolution, that might make them the best candidate for the research.
