@BirtleyBadBoy@PatMillsUK@garyseconomics In the U.S., anyone who owns a home pays a wealth tax: it's called property tax. If ordinary people have to pay a wealth tax on the majority of their wealth, shouldn't the rich have to pay a tax on theirs?
Good graphic. But a person who makes less than what they need to live on (eg $41k depending on location) shouldn't have to pay any taxes at all. https://t.co/zhu1GT0IMv
Not that the deficit is something to be scared of, since the fed. govt can never be unable to pay its debts; but it does matter whether you give money to the rich or invest it in making the society stronger.
Three consecutive Democratic Presidents have lowered the deficit. Three consecutive Republican Presidents have raised it, none more than Trump.
There is only one fiscally responsible party in America - the Democratic Party.
“In Finland, the # of homeless people has fallen sharply. Those affected receive a small apartment & counselling with no preconditions. 4 out of 5 people affected make their way back into a stable life. And all this is CHEAPER than accepting homelessness.” https://t.co/Hs7uBI3Ruh
@Brendan_Duke Agree, that's strange. But no one who makes less than enough to live on (eg $41k depending on location) should have to pay any taxes at all. https://t.co/zhu1GT0IMv
WOW: Jamie Raskin just reminded everyone that in a 2019 oversight hearing, oil and gas industry scientists and experts testified that the industry knew that the burning of fossil fuels caused climate change as early as 1959.
1959!
@SethAbramson The Guardian reports it correctly, although they don't provide the additional information about what might happen next.

Most of what is taught in HS isn't useful to most students.
Not surprising: college profs outside the STEM fields rate linear functions, exponential functions, and stats as more widely useful and important than trig or calc.

@TheSmiddy@curious_founder Where is your heart pump hot water unit? Does it duct outside? Trying to find one so I don't super-cool the laundry room where current hot water tank sits. Recommendation?
We ditched our gas stove for an induction stove and it's MUCH BETTER FOR COOKING on top of having the advantage of not poisoning us or contributing to global warming.
@drvolts "The total cost resulting from major U.S. weather and climate disasters [2018 - 2022] exceeded $617 billion, a record figure. In 2022 alone, the cost of climate and weather disasters in the United States totaled more than $176 billion – the third most costly year on record…"
"How is that fair?"
My 24-minute deep-dive on @MSNBConPeacock, comparing Jared and Ivanka's grift, conflicts of interest, payments from foreign governments, and alleged corruption and cover-ups with... Hunter Biden's.

@ValaAfshar Nice remarks.
Oddly, I can find a transcript of this speech at the RR Presidential Library website, but not the video. Where did you find it.
