And even if it made sense to pitch to Helton over Walker, playing second fiddle to *Larry Walker* isn’t at all disqualifying. I respect Dan a lot, but this is a bizarre argument to make.
Todd Helton may get elected to the Hall of Fame today.
@DanEvans108 joined me and @BruceHaertl, and shared why Helton would not be on his ballot.

If teams preferred to pitch to Helton over Walker, that was a miscalculation on their part, and a severe one away from Denver, and shouldn’t be something that is held against Helton.
@DrewCreasman Helton and Walker were everyday players together from 1998-2003, over that span…
Walker hit
.339/.435/.603
146 OPS+
Helton hit
.338/.428/.620
147 OPS+
If teams chose to pitch to Helton over Walker, that seems like a miscalculation on their part…
@GreenfieldMax18@AndThatsBB I’m hopeful that McCann will at least be able to survive year one, though even that might be unlikely with the Astros stuff. Martin’s case feels DOA and that’s unfortunate. Maybe the VC will do them right one day if/when the writers don’t.
@AndThatsBB@GreenfieldMax18 I had assumed the same, but realized about a year ago when the discussions first started that people had a very different perception of Mauer and that they were going to have very different paths. Still mind boggling that Mauer has out performed him by this kind of margin though.
@AndThatsBB@GreenfieldMax18 I probably would’ve guessed he’d be around 20% year one. He deserves far more support, but this was a pretty great debut for him given he falls a bit short of the traditional standards. Good chance he would’ve been sub 5% just a few years ago.
