The South African Police Service (SAPS) in Gauteng has taken departmental action against a police official after a video circulated on social media, particularly Facebook. The video depicts a police officer in full uniform allegedly returning money to a member of the public following an alleged bribery incident.
The officer in the video has been identified. Immediate disciplinary processes have been instituted and a departmental investigation has been launched to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident. SAPS stated that the acceptance, solicitation or facilitation of a bribe constitutes a criminal offence and a serious violation of the SAPS Code of Conduct.
Gauteng Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni condemned the alleged conduct, saying SAPS will not tolerate corruption in any form. "Members who abuse their authority, compromise their integrity, or betray the trust placed in them by the public will be dealt with decisively," he said. SAPS maintains a zero-tolerance approach to corruption and said all members are expected to conduct themselves with integrity and professionalism.
I think it was Cardi B who once tweeted something like “South Africa is literally a mess, their presenters are also their actors, models, Radio presenters, deejays, lifestyle influencers, reality TV hosts, talk show hosts, play writers...
What about the kids who went to school for theses things or talents?”
