Our U.S. immigration system has failed to keep up with the needs of the 21st century.
Tomorrow, I’ll be leading a hearing discussing how we can improve it. We must remove barriers and cut the green card backlog to strengthen our communities and economy.
Getting a lotta tweets from folks who say lawmakers dropped the ball on the diversity visa lottery.
Sounds like an interesting topic to report on but I'm unfamiliar with the program.
Can someone concisely explain what's going on here? & who in Congress to ask?
DMs are open.
We’re proud to join the #ValueOurFamilies campaign to fight for family immigration. We call on congress to fix the immigration backlog, ensure our promise to Diversity Visa winners, re-include a permanent pathway to citizenship, and take out any unnecessary fee hikes.
Over 41,000 visa applicants from the banned countries were denied as a result of Trump's travel bans. People who won their diversity visas were denied this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for themselves & their families. They need a new chance to claim their lost diversity visas.
It has been three years since Marziyeh won the Diversity Lottery and was denied entry because of the Muslim and African Bans. She is heartbroken since she is unable to be with her sister. #NoMuslimBanEver
Tell the Biden administration that they need to grant visas to Diversity Lottery winners like Marziyeh so families can be reunited.

"To refuse to wait within this context signals a rupture in the relationship between those being forced to wait and those with the power to require others to wait." @minlayla77 writes on the aftermath of the 2017 "Muslim Ban."

Tens of thousands of diversity visa holders were held back from claiming their visas under Trump’s travel ban, then the pandemic made things worse. They hope a clause in the Build Back Better plan will save their visas. @MMIIIDDDDO https://t.co/ALGQMh91ji
Manchin and Sinema among those who are attending infrastructure bill signing ceremony today at WH; Portman, Cassidy, Collins and Murkowksi also going. They all helped put the deal together
The #CHC is proud to endorse the Keeping Our Promise Act & thank @RepRitchie for introducing this legislation that is consistent with our long history of welcoming people of all faiths.
In paragraph (3) of this section, all DV 2017-2021 winners who were unable to get a visa because of either (1) the Muslim/Travel bans or (2) COVID restrictions or "other effects" of the pandemic, would become eligible for a visa again.
Thrilled that my provisions to rollover unused family-sponsored #visas, employment-based visas, & diversity visas caused by #COVID19 processing delays, was included in the Homeland Security spending bill that now heads to the House floor. 1/2
Thank you @FWDus for the support & advocacy on this issue. With your help, @RepJudyChu, @RepGraceMeng & I will pass the Keeping Our Promise Act & ensure that America continues to be a nation that welcomes immigrants to our shores.
The US is going to shrink in population as a result of COVID 19 and reduced immigration. This is BAD for the economy. Very BAD. Hey Congress, Get this fixed.

A common criticism of the diversity visa program is that it attracts immigrants on the basis of where they come from, not the skills they bring.
But DV immigrants ARE highly skilled—more educated than natives and other immigrants on average!
Exactly what anti immigration views cannot understand. Other economies are growing much faster than the USA. Often with populations that dwarf the USA. That means we are losing our place as a world leader. Want to make America Great again? Attract new talent!
