Tharaka University (TUN) teams were out in full force as the Kenya University Sports Federation (KUSF) League 1A Central Conference games kicked off today at the Chuka University grounds.
The university fielded a strong lineup of talent across multiple disciplines, including women's basketball, men's netball, baseball, women's darts, women's pool, women's badminton, and both men's and women's taekwondo. Supporting the student-athletes on the ground were Coach Douglas Muriungi, Sports Officer Bonface Kimathi, and Administrative Officer (Sports) Moses Wamuuru.

Tharaka University (TUN) today joined the local community at the Ura Gate Tharaka Cultural Festival to celebrate its rich heritage, material culture, songs, and dances.

Tharaka University (TUN) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Landscape Alliance Global to strengthen collaboration in research, learning, conservation, and landscape restoration.
The agreement was signed by TUN Vice-Chancellor and CEO, Prof. Peter K. Muriungi, PhD, during a courtesy call on Landscape Alliance CEO, Eliane Ubalijoro, at her office in Gigiri, Nairobi.
The partnership will see the establishment of a Tamarind (Tamarindus indica) gene bank at TUN, supporting research, conservation and the development of improved planting materials.
The MoU will also create opportunities for TUN students to undertake attachments and internships, while facilitating the sharing of expertise, laboratory facilities and other resources.

Tharaka University this afternoon held a staff mentorship sensitisation workshop aimed at preparing and inducting teaching staff into their role as mentors and strengthening the support available to first year students throughout their university journey.
The workshop was officially opened by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic, Research and Student Affairs (ARSA), Prof. Veronica Nyagah, who urged lecturers to take students under their wings, guide them and provide the support they need to thrive both academically and personally.
The session provided an opportunity for teaching staff to reflect on their past experiences in guiding and supporting students, sharing lessons learnt and deliberating on better approaches to mentorship going forward.
The lecturers were also taken through key dimensions of student mentorship, including psychological, social, economic and financial, physical, ethical and academic development.
The areas are intended to equip mentors with a holistic approach to supporting students and helping them navigate the various challenges associated with university life.
As part of the mentorship programme, each teaching staff member was assigned 38 first year students to mentor, providing a structured support system through which students can receive guidance, encouragement and advice throughout their academic journey.
The initiative underscores Tharaka University’s commitment to holistic student development, recognising that effective mentorship plays a critical role in shaping responsible, resilient and successful graduates.

Tharaka University is celebrating a major milestone following the successful placement of its first student under a partnership between Tharaka University and Wittmund District for Labour Mobility and Academic Exchange Programme.
Ms.Winnie Ongachi, who is pursuing a degree in Hotel and Tourism, is the first beneficiary of the initiative to relocate to Germany for work in hospitality industry.
Prof.Reinard Aulke, a German-based scholar, is leading the initiative to offer Tharaka University students global exposure.
Prof. Aulke was at Tharaka University between February and March this year where he taught students in different faculties German.
The students, who attained proficiency in German, received certificates that would enable them to pursue careers in Germany.
The achievement is expected to inspire more Tharaka University students to pursue international opportunities through vocational training and specialised skills development.

Tharaka University has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Thailand-based Shinawatra University, a significant step towards strengthening international academic partnerships and creating new opportunities for students, staff and researchers from both institutions.
Tharaka University Vice-Chancellor, Prof Peter K. Muriungi, welcomed the partnership, noting that international collaborations are central to the University's commitment to providing students and staff with opportunities beyond the borders.
"This memorandum of understanding is an important milestone in Tharaka University's internationalisation agenda. Our partnership with Shinawatra University will open new avenues for academic exchange, professional development and collaborative research, while giving our students and staff valuable exposure to different academic and cultural environments," he said.
The Vice Chancellor reiterated that the MoU would provide a platform for the two institutions to leverage their respective strengths and develop initiatives with lasting impact.
"We look forward to translating this agreement into meaningful programmes that benefit our students, academic and administrative staff, and the wider communities we serve. Through collaboration, we can generate new knowledge, share resources and develop innovative solutions to contemporary challenges," he said.
Dr. Collins Sitienei, the Director, Linkages and Partnerships at Tharaka University, said the MoU was an important addition to the University's growing network of international partnerships.
