Detail Frequency, the amount of detail packed into an area of an image, is important to a highly rendered #splash#art. The goal is balancing high intensity and areas of rest to focus attention. Here are some heat maps I made to illustrate this.
2. Don’t trust your own taste. You know good words, but your visual taste may suck. Show your cover art to strangers, beg them for brutally honest feedback, then *listen* and improve. Bonus points for designer & artist strangers.
To a browsing reader, your cover IS your book. They may buy a crap novel with a hot cover, but the other way around is very unlikely. Why have a cover that says “my amateur novel” when it’s GOOD, as we established above? Why?!? Do you hate yourself? Prefer to *not* sell books?
