This intersects with some important indigenous issues. Castillo was descended from Indigenous peoples, though did not identify as Indigenous himself.

Indigenous leadership in #Peru must be a part of dialogue re: constitutional reform.

1. Castillo did attempt a legislative coup.

2. He enjoys a lot of support in some quarters, enmity in Congress.

3. The constitution is deeply unpopular with no clear road to reform.

The issue is not whether Boluarte is a legitimate or popular successor, it is whether she can move the country towards badly needed constitutional reform. I asses this is the key step needed for long term stability.
