Reading @Trentonian news on indictment of Trenton's Martin Moore. Always push for answers from government, especially when @gusciora's thuggish security guard puts his hands on reporter to restrain him from getting answers the public should know.
President Biden is a patriot who has served our country honorably in the Senate, as Vice President, and as one of the most consequential presidents in modern history.
President Biden has gotten an incredible amount done to move our country forward, defend our democracy, and protect real freedom.
I am proud to work by his side and am grateful for his leadership and his unwavering commitment to delivering for Pennsylvania — the Commonwealth that raised him.
Breaking: NJ's @GovMurphy signed a bill that severely undermines OPRA, the state's public records law. Via @politico: https://t.co/e5qIW10jL4
In March, @rcfp explained how the changes can weaken government oversight and undercut accountability reporting. https://t.co/ILMQXlyNPY
Asking politicians if they want OPRA to have teeth is like asking a teenager if they want a curfew--of course most don't.
Involving the public in governing comes with accountability, questions, criticism, etc. But it's OUR govt and we deserve to be involved & see what it's up to
The NJ OPRA battle continues. @NJCitizenAction pledges to stand with @GovMurphy if the Dems in his own party who advanced the changes try to take it out on his agenda. https://t.co/tryksP66oy
It is budget season...
#Democracyneedstransparency
.@StevenFulop and @rasjbaraka are particularly important voices here, since we have been led to believe New Jersey mayors support the bill. @GovMurphy, if not them, who?
Despite overwhelming public outcry, the NJ Legislature passed legislation to gut OPRA. Now it's up to @GovMurphy to #ProtectOPRA. Call the Governor at 609-292-6000 and ask him to veto S2930/A4045.
It’s ironic that these lawmakers come from the party that talks about “small government” & “law and order,” yet they voted for a bill that makes it significantly harder for the public to see how our $ is spent. And they are doing so bc a bunch of lawbreaking agencies complained
We're still calling @GovMurphy to urge him to veto this bill. It's nothing more than a cloak of secrecy for public officials and a perversion of our state OPRA law. Many legislators who advanced this billl hold local public jobs and have a conflict of interest.
OPRA *is* a cost-saving law. Transparency allows us to see how our dollars are spent, and to weigh in. It curbs corruption and waste
If you want to save money, tell agencies to comply with the law so there will be no lawsuits. And, expand OPRA so we can monitor even more
Casual reminder that the overwhelming majority of OPRA requests are for property records--people purchasing homes (i.e. future property tax payers) who need to check for open permits, violations, etc
Put those online & you cut OPRA requests by 50%+--no need to gut transparency!
My old paper @Trentonian wrote OPRA's obit. But there's still time for @GovMurphy to raise the state's "Sunshine" law from the dead. https://t.co/ln3KEAdvW1
