Real Zangetsu, White, was asleep at the moment Ichigo found his tail inside the box of his soul.

And Yhwach, the Old Man behind Ichigo, responded with, “I hope my name reaches you next time.”

At that moment, after Old Man Yhwach spoke to Ichigo, Kubo deliberately placed two separate speech bubbles ~

One bubble, on the right side, came from Ichigo as he responded:

“ARE YOU…?”

While the second came from White’s Tamashii/soul, his raw form, with the tail of the speech bubble pointing directly toward him as he woke from his sleep and responded to Old Man Yhwach:

“COULD YOU BE…?”

We’ve seen this Tamashii that makes up White several times throughout the story: when Ichigo’s sword shattered in the third arc, and one last time with Nimaiya, when he turned him into a sword.

And White had only just woken up.

White immediately wanted to get to know the Old Man in this world.
