Okay. So I've wanted to articulate this for a while, but never really knew how.
But I'm personally absolutely, completely disgusted with the Democratic Party — *my* party, in many ways — and not because of the party moving "too far left/right". Let me explain.🧵
U.S. House fails to reauthorize 20-year-old bipartisan bill. States will miss out on millions in funding to support rural schools https://t.co/0FH1vQjR1V
@johnegibson Recent demographic studies show most rural areas continuing to lose population. Places like Lubbock might be an exception in those regions.
We need public policy that encourages people to repopulate rural areas. (Low cost loans to encourage people to buy unused existing private property and put it back into productive agricultural use.)
From C-SPAN retirement interview, @Sen_JoeManchin on leaving the Democratic Party: "I never felt comfortable being a Washington Democrat...the brand from Washington is so bad...if you're in a red state the D brand is so bad."
In Texas, where a majority of the population lives along and east of I-35, the voices of those living West of I-35 are faint and growing fainter in the statehouse." From the preface to The Man Who Rode Midnight by Elmer Kelton 1987
🧵1/ Let's get one thing straight: the last 12 years of the Texas Democratic Party have been nothing short of a disaster. The party has become a hollow shell of what it could be, and the people of Texas deserve better. It's time for a reckoning.

This is the kind of passion rural people deserve. We are not Josh Hawley fans, but he is right on this one. Democrats should be doing this every day. We would love to see our own Senators defend rural Texas this way.
Sen. Josh Hawley on the @USPS Regional Transportation Optimization plan: "I hate this plan. I'm going to do everything I can to kill it. I'm going to try to protect every delivery to the state of Missouri...If I have to go down with the ship I'll go down with the ship."
if a candidate’s response to anything rural is <filler words> + “farming… broadband”, they’re shouting at the top of their lungs that they don’t know shit about rural areas & are unfit to represent them.
Gene Wu as head of the House Democratic Caucus is such a bad decision it is proof that nothing will ever change in the Texas Democratic Party, regardless of who is State Chair. At least for 30-40 years.
@stephtu0123@andrebttx Actually we are in the "want to win" category and in our assessment Mr Wu is not that kind of a Democrat, and is out of touch with the majority of Texans. If you want him to lead a permanent minority party then he is the right man for the job.
