@michaelgove No, they fail resits because they did not understand maths in the first place — we need to teach maths that supports how and why to understand the functions of numbers in the world, not to pass exams. Having taken GCSE twice with 3 decades between them, it’s rote vs real learning

@TimandraHarknes @talktojimmer My original (‘90) GCSE was in essence self taught via classroom booklets. Adult-Ed GCSE teaching incomparably good. Exam papers: (1) cut complex wordy English before you even get to maths bit of the scenario (2) Scrap foundation vs higher papers which penalise slowness not skills

School transport is a nightmare since it is all outsourced to private companies now — plus it wasn’t adjusted to include 16-18 when the compulsory age was increased. School children’s public transport is one of the first things I’d fully fund if I were Minister for a day.

@rakibehsan @Fox_Claire @spikedonline If you spend a day in magistrates courts, you’ll see as many cases as these in just one session, all of whom are British. Reporting on this isn’t wrong, but can be misleading and mis focus policy attention suggesting only factor X makes women unsafe, if portrayed without context.
