When someone new joins the team, they inherit the existing culture.
New people don’t know the choices made, and senior people can take those choices for granted.
This is how mediocrity can develop within a previously high-performing team.
Excellence is a daily choice and requires constant cultivation by leadership.
This is why I’m a strong advocate of regular coaching and frequent communication. Not as a way of micromanaging, but as a way of ensuring alignment and direction.
@nickitruesdell@bieryel I agree with you too. It’s a mess.
When you have to apply the same rules to everyone then managing bad behavior is too often at the expense of good people. You see this throughout society in increased costs, admission fees, more policies, and longer contracts. 😣
@CristinCulver@mkobach Serious influencers are running a small business. They need finance, marketing, sales, and negotiating skills. It’s why talent agencies have full rosters to help with overhead and operations.
Yes.
1. Lack of conviction and courage.
2. Fear of being called and ist or phobic. 🙄
3. Litigious society and a system that allows pockets to be drained.
4. Profit over people. Pricing chaos into the P+L until they can’t.
I keep thinking of a podcast with a talent exec who said live events are the next big thing to double down on. He’s right and the price of admission will be high.
Somewhere along the way business has increasingly encroached on our personal lives whether on their own accord or as an arm of the state.
For many, their employer or role is a large part of their identity.
When we spend more time at work, than we do with loved ones then we have unhealthy + unrealistic expectations of our colleagues.
Instead of being professional (friendly with personal boundaries), we have cliques, “work wives”, and “work husbands” 🥴.
The push for companies to be sensitive to employee’s well-being continues the encroachment. Because at the end of the day people are responsible for themselves.
This blending of business and personal creates dysfunction in the workplace. We need to bring back the skill of compartmentalizing.
Compartmentalization doesn’t make anyone less authentic. Instead it recognizes the time and place in order to manage personal energy.
It allows you to do great work and treat people well, without losing yourself.
@themgmtconsult I enjoyed his marketing tips back in the wine days. Somewhere in the mid to late 2010’s I checked out. The YT for kids was weird to me.
Would you rather invest in talent...
1) INTERNAL: teach your workflows/processes (IP) to an intern or employee who could later work for someone else/themselves in the industry
2) EXTERNAL: sell your workflows/processes (IP) to industry peers and competitors
