WAITING FOR THE SUN has been named the album that best captured the mood of 1968 by BBC Music’s CLASSICAL MUSIC.
In a ranking of 21 albums that reflected the uncertainty, tension, and emotions of the era, The Doors’ third studio album was recognized for confronting the realities of its time. Specifically, “The Unknown Soldier,” with it’s anti-war message.

“Take me, Spanish Caravan...”
“Spanish Caravan” brought a different flavor into The Doors catalog. Written by Robby Krieger as a showcase for his flamenco guitar style, the song pulled inspiration from Isaac Albéniz’s “Asturias” and blended it into something distinctly Doors.

Happy birthday to the legendary Howlin' Wolf, one of the defining voices of the Blues whose impact reached far beyond the genre itself.
The Doors paid tribute to Wolf with their take on “Back Door Man” from the debut album, bringing a new interpretation to the Willie Dixon written song he made famous.

When The Doors learned that Van Morrison’s band THEM would be joining the lineup during their residency at the Whisky a Go Go, they nervously pulled their cover of “Gloria” from the set list.
As the week went on and the bands got to know each other, “Gloria” made its way back into the lineup, ending with both bands joining together to perform it on the final night.
Some songs just have a way of finding their way back.

“I love the friends I have gathered together on this thin raft
We've constructed pyramids in honor of our escaping”
Years before it appeared on L.A.WOMAN in 1971, “The WASP (Texas Radio and the Big Beat)” existed in different forms. The lyrics were published as a poem in The Doors’ official 1968 concert souvenir program and had already found their way into live performances, like this one from the Hollywood Bowl in 1968.
