SKAIWATER IS POST-EVERYTHING.
Four years ago, @azothism broke big with their 2022 single “#miles,” which catapulted the Nottingham native to viral highs and major label deals. To another rapper, this might have been a happy ending — for The FADER’s latest cover star, it’s been a turbulent prologue to their current era as an independent artist, fighting against rap purists, gender norms, and industry standards to push hip-hop forward. “Bro, it's a group of kids changing how we listen to this type of music. People just gotta get with it or get left.”
skaiwater opened up about their childhood, being friends with Lil Nas X, their nonbinary identity, and leaving the major label system in a new interview with @perlucidum for the cover of The FADER.

Big Freedia teases future collaborations and "flips" of her collab tracks with SOPHIE, in addition to the already announced MUNA feature.
"There's going to be some other surprises to make the music last even longer ... I have some ideas and the family's okay with them, so we are gonna do some more flipping."
Big Freedia on her magical session with SOPHIE:
"I went to her house in the hills and she was so sweet, loving, and welcoming ... She was like, 'Oh my god, you gave me so many vocals to be able to play with.' Then she did her thing on them, and started creating the magic."
"We just started pouring magic," recalls @bigfreedia of her one packed 2016 session with the late SOPHIE.
The FADER caught up with the Bounce legend to talk about SOPHIE's legacy and finally releasing their EP, 'Released At Last.'

Navy Blue on "living through a genocide":
"Why do I get to live, and why does a child have to die? Since when did martyrdom apply to children? But that's the power of writing. There's people that wrote in the '40s speaking of this, and their work still stands today."

Navy Blue on lyricism:
"Simple is a strength. Simple is not necessarily easy. There are basketball players that I grew up watching, skateboarders that I grew up watching that made things look simple – but it's not."

Navy Blue on being an independent artist:
"I make music from my heart for the people that it’s meant for, and when it’s funneled through the computers and all of that, a part of it dies, you know? Part of the spirit dies."
