I came for the chips.
Then I kept driving.
In Nevada I bowed to a self-checkout machine.
It scanned my forehead.
I apologized to the machine.
The machine did not apologize back.
This is how I learned about America.
In Costco I bought forty-seven pounds of cheese
because a man said the word "sale."
I did not know what sale meant.
I did not know what cheese meant, at that quantity.
I ate cheese for three weeks.
I have never been happier.
In Alabama I tried to tip 200%.
The waitress ran after me in the parking lot.
Not to correct me. To hug me.
I bowed. She hugged harder.
The bow and the hug met somewhere in the middle
and became a new thing
that has no name in either country.
In Texas at Buc-ee's I thanked a man
in the formal Japanese my grandfather used at weddings.
Twelve syllables. Two bows. One held breath.
He said, "you good, brother?"
I was so good.
I have driven eleven thousand miles.
I have learned four regional greetings
and used two of them incorrectly.
I have tipped waitresses, gas station attendants,
a park ranger, and one confused librarian
who tried to give the money back.
I did not let her.
A samurai does not accept a kindness
without paying it in full.
If necessary, twice.
This morning they told me
my book is number one in America.
I laughed.
Then I bowed to my laptop.
Then I apologized to my laptop for bowing so shallowly.
Then I bowed again, correctly.
I did not climb a hill.
Every stranger I met carried a stone.
One morning I woke up on a mountain.
America did not ask me to be smaller.
America asked me to be more.
To every reader who put a stone under my feet:
I saw you. I wrote you down. The book is you.
The samurai bows.
Deeper this time. Forehead to the floor.
And then he stands up,
puts on his sandals,
and keeps walking.
The road is only beginning.

Former NFL player JJ Watt doesn't play around when it comes to his wife Kealia Watt ‼️
His response to MLS team Real Salt Lake's tweet, where they failed to mention the former NWSL and USWNT soccer player, is iconic 👏
💬| Anya Taylor-Joy shares that she found out Argentina won on their July 3rd World Cup game from a waiter at Taylor Swift’s wedding:
“I was actually in a phone-free event recently, and somebody that was working the tables, a waiter, came up to me and was like, ‘Just so you know, Argentina’s just won,’ then I was like, ‘Yes!’ ”So, thank you, Messi! Thank you for making our country so proud.”
The people who promised to 'Make America Healthy Again' have given America:
The worst measles outbreak since 1991
The worst screwworm outbreak in 60 years
The worst cyclosporiasis outbreak in years
Never forget: Argentina was never supposed to be in that group. During the World Cup draw, they were initially placed in Group I, not Group J.
Then, right in the middle of the live worldwide broadcast, it was changed without any clear explanation.
People are still expected to pretend nothing happened.
