🚨 “This is a crazy time to be playing college baseball.”
College coach Victor Solis from Paradise Valley Community College explains that college coaches now have more options than ever before.
Because of that, players and families need to stay open-minded about opportunities and understand the importance of finding the RIGHT level and fit.
The landscape has changed.

BASEBALL EVALUATIONS AREN’T SIMPLE.
College coaches have a lot of players to choose from and a limited number of roster spots and offers available.
They’re evaluating your ability, projection, academics, character, position, graduation year, and how you fit their specific roster needs.
Even if a coach likes you, that program still has to have a need for the type of player you are.
That’s why recruiting must be approached in numbers.
One school may decide you’re not the right fit, while another may believe you’re exactly what its program needs.
Build a broad, realistic target list, communicate consistently and create as many qualified opportunities as possible.
You don’t need to fit every program. You need to find the programs where you are the right fit.
The best recruiting decisions rarely feel like fireworks. 🎇
They feel boring — in the best way.
No panic to commit before an offer "disappears."
No talking yourself into ignoring red flags.
Just the pieces quietly lining up: real playing time, honest coaches, academics that fit, a budget that works, and a campus your athlete could actually picture living on — even after the excitement fades.
Big schools and shiny facilities can create a rush.
But excitement isn't the same as fit.
Ask the real question...
Not "what excites us most right now?"
But "what will still make sense two years from now?"
Confidence > adrenaline. Every time. 👍

Congratulations to Mt. Bethel Christian Academy RHP Hayes Stephens on his commitment to Erskine College!
Hayes has built his game around something every college pitching coach is looking for, the ability to command the baseball and get big outs. Hayes consistently fills up the strike zone, changes looks on hitters, and has shown the ability to miss bats with his entire arsenal.
His feel for pitching, competitiveness, and continued development make him a great fit for the Flying Fleet. Hayes has put in the work to earn this opportunity, and we're excited to see what he can do at the next level.
Congratulations to Hayes, his family, coaches, and everyone who has been part of the journey. The Fleet are getting a great arm and a better young man! @hayes14stephens@FleetBaseball
If players and families get this right, the recruiting process becomes immensely easier.
The best way to build a target list is to combine an accurate assessment of the player’s skill set with a realistic evaluation of where they fit academically, athletically and socially.
When this is done across a broad enough range of schools and the player communicates directly, consistently and responsively with college coaches - the process becomes far more focused and effective.
Congratulations to Zach Lewis on his commitment to Cal State East Bay. Zach is a versatile infielder who can play multiple positions at a high level. He brings a solid bat, a competitive approach, and the ability to make an immediate impact anywhere in the lineup. After navigating the transfer process, Zach found the right opportunity and a great place to continue his college baseball career. Congrats, Zach. The work continues. @zachlewis@CSUEB_Baseball
Important recruiting reminder:
During the quiet period, Division I coaches cannot evaluate recruits at off-campus events.
Therefore, events advertising “college coaches in attendance” over the next few weeks will not include Division I coaches in a recruiting capacity until the quiet period ends.
Athletes and families: Before registering, ask which divisions and programs will actually be represented.
Congratulations to 2027 C Rocco DaFonseca from Barrington HS on his commitment to UMass Boston! Rocco is a grinder behind the plate who will help make a college pitching staff better from day one on campus, and he projects to hit for power at the next level. We are thrilled for Rocco and his family - the Beacons got a good one! @roccodafonseca@BeaconsBaseball

We hate to break it to you but...
The 'perfect school' doesn't exist. 🙅♂️
Every family wants it all: perfect coaches, perfect academics, perfect campus, perfect playing time.
Here's the truth — that school doesn't exist. Only schools that fit better than others.
Every opportunity comes with tradeoffs:
🏫 Great academics, but a crowded depth chart
🏟️ Amazing facilities, but limited playing time
🤝 Coaches your athlete loves, but a campus that's not quite right
The key isn't finding a school that checks every box. It's knowing what matters MOST to your athlete before you start narrowing the list — academics, culture, development, location, financial fit, and beyond.
The goal isn't perfection. It's finding the right fit among the options that actually exist. ✅

This is the most difficult year for recruiting in my tenure as a head college coach. With the new 5-for-5 rule, nearly all college players will have an extra year of eligibility. Do you keep/pay your 4-year guys, recruit a good 2027 class, or take portal/transfers?
Last week we celebrated and shared our 8 year anniversary. 🎉 Thank you to everyone who celebrated with us!
This week's blog post goes into 8 important lessons we've learned in these 8 years. And how our mission has always remained the same. Helping athletes find the right fit. 💪

Congratulations to 2027 RHP/UTIL Harrison Goodwin from La Salle (RI) on his commitment to Catholic University! Harry is a high academic player with an ability to make an impact on the field in many different ways. His quiet confidence on and off the field will be an asset to the Cardinals on the field and the entire Catholic community off of it! @CatholicU_BSB
WHO IS RECRUITING WHO? ⚾
You can often connect future playing time with one simple question:
How much does the coach actually want you?
If a coach is recruiting YOU hard- calling, texting, following up, watching you play, and consistently showing interest, there’s a good chance they see a real role for you in their program.
If YOU are recruiting THEM hard - constantly reaching out, trying to get responses, and convincing them to evaluate you, the likelihood of early playing time is usually much lower.
It’s not a guarantee. But it’s an important signal.
Coach really likes you → Better opportunity to play.
You’re trying to convince the coach → Bigger uphill battle for playing time.
Don’t just ask: “Will they take me?”
Ask: “How badly do they want me?”
🎯 ACTIVE IN RECRUITING ≠ EFFECTIVE IN RECRUITING
We hear it all the time:
“I’m emailing coaches.”
“I’m going to camps.”
“I’m posting on social media.”
“I’m reaching out.”
That’s great, but doing things isn’t enough.
You can be extremely active in recruiting and still get ZERO RESULTS if you’re missing the target.
Successful recruiting requires:
⚾ The RIGHT schools- programs that fit your ability and needs.
⏰ The RIGHT timing - contacting them when they are actually recruiting your position and class.
📊 The RIGHT information - video, metrics, academics, stats, and details coaches need to evaluate you.
📲 The RIGHT form of outreach - email, text, social media, camps, in-person connections, or an advocate who can get you directly in front of the right coach.
You can send 100 emails to the wrong schools at the wrong time with the wrong information and wonder why nobody responds.
Activity doesn’t create recruiting results.
🎯 The RIGHT activity does.
Right Schools + Right Timing + Right Information + Right Outreach = A Better Chance to Hit Your Recruiting Target

There are stages on the road to playing college baseball.
The step that gets celebrated the most is the verbal commitment and it should be.
It’s a major accomplishment.
But the journey isn’t over.
There are still important milestones after that 👇
✅ Signing Day (National Letter of Intent or other enrollment paperwork)
✅ Arriving on campus
✅ Making the team
✅ Earning an impact role and playing time
The reality is that some players fall short at each step.
A verbal commitment is a huge achievement, but it’s not the finish line.
The goal isn’t just to commit. The goal is to make an impact at the college level.
Congratulations to 2027 Calhoun HS RHP Mason Peek on his commitment to Kennesaw State University!
Kennesaw State is keeping one of Georgia's top arms close to home. Mason has established himself as one of the premier right-handed pitchers in the 2027 class, attacking hitters with a fastball up to 94 MPH, a sharp breaking ball, and the competitive edge every coach wants on the mound. He thrives in big moments and has the mentality to go right after hitters.
The Owls are getting more than just premium stuff—they're adding a fierce competitor who embraces the challenge every time he takes the ball. Mason is a tremendous fit for the culture Kennesaw State continues to build, and we're excited to watch him represent his home state at the next level.
Congratulations to Mason, his family, coaches, and everyone who helped make this opportunity possible. Go Owls! @Masonpeek_@KSUOwlsBaseball
We all do it.
Players, parents, and coaches are all guilty of letting judgements shape how we view a school or a recruiting interaction.
The challenge is this: don’t let your pre-conceived notion become your final decision.
Instead, take a step back and ask:
Does this school still fit what matters most to me?
