📈 Greece had the worst performance in the EU, increasing its gas consumption by 𝟑𝟏.𝟑% between 2024 and 2023. Eight Member States reduced their gas use with Portugal leading the way (-16.7%), while the EU-27 on average remained almost stagnant (+0.3%).

🔺 In January 2025, #gas consumption in Greece surged to 𝟕.𝟔𝟖 𝐓𝐖𝐡 , reaching an all-time high since data collection by DESFA began in 2008.

🔍 The first source of gas imports was #LNG (from Agia Triada and Amphitriti) with a share of 56.2% (4.42 TWh). It is followed by Russian gas from the Sidirokastro gate (35.5% or 2.79 TWh) and then Azeri gas from Nea Mesimvria (8.3% or 0.66 TWh).

3⃣/ Στη χειρότερη θέση η Ελλάδα στην ΕΕ-27, αυξάνοντας κατά 𝟑𝟏.𝟑% την κατανάλωση αερίου μεταξύ 2024 και 2023. 8 κράτη μέλη μείωσαν τη χρήση αερίου με πρωτοπόρο την Πορτογαλία (-16.7%), ενώ η ΕΕ-27 κατά μέσο όρο παρέμεινε σχεδόν στάσιμη (+0.3%).

PPC reduced its emissions by 10.9% compared to 2023. However, it was off track of achieving its goal to reduce emissions by 75% in 2026 compared to 2019. Specifically, PPC exceeded by 0.6 mil. tons its total 2024 carbon budget of 9.61 mil. tons.

In 2024, Greece had the cleanest electricity mix since 2013, with an average yearly carbon intensity of 269 g #CO2/kWh.

The top 5 polluters consist of two lignite plants and three fossil gas plants, namely: #1 Agios Dimitrios I-V, #2 Agios Nikolaos II, #3 Ptolemaida 5, #4 Megalopoli V and #5 Lavrio IV-V.
