We are Tony's family and friends. You're used to hearing from Tony here. So are we. Like you, we are heartbroken. Tony left us unexpectedly, far too soon, on May 1st — peacefully, in his sleep.
We have been reading every message, every tribute, every piece of art shared in his name. You loved him well. Thank you.
THE KILLER - One of my favs; Woo's original elegiac classic. First fell in love watching this as a late teen, during a dark period of my life (was the last movie I watched with my mother) seen it countless times since but it never looked this good (4K). Cathartic as always.😎🕊️🥹
@OldPangYau Maybe you are and you don't even realise it. Pretty sure they used @studiotstella artwork on their BluRay release without even telling him. 😬
THE OUTLAW JOSEY WALES - 50th anniversary screening of this classic to kick off my 50th birthday celebrations! Probably the best western Clint Eastwood directed. Everything in this hits the bullseye from the wonderful supporting cast to the sharp shooting with guns and spit! 😂🤠
THE NOTEBOOK - Modern classic tear jerker (2nd only to THE BRIDGES OF MADISON COUNTY) Genius cast of Garner/Rowlands (beautiful swan song performances) and Gosling/McAdams (breakout mainstream roles) do the heavy lifting to rescue a mawkish story + Gena's Alzheimer's death IRL=😭
SEND HELP - Sam Raimi returns to the genre that kicked off his career - this time the horror is more survival than supernatural though - contains the usual dark comedy moments and crazy camera work but very similar to the second half of TRIANGLE OF SADNESS with a touch of MISERY!
@ThePCCLondon Wow! I remember panicking about getting tickets for TO LIVE AND DIE IN L.A. with William Friedkin, Mark Kermode and Wang Chung! This must've been next level.
EVIL DEAD II - Sam Raimi's seminal horror/comedy sequel easily inspired an entire new generation of film directors and genre flicks but this is still the best of the 'cabin in the woods' ones. Not least because of Bruce Campbell's stand out career defining role as Ash. "Groovy!"
THE HOUSEMAID - Went in pretty blind to this so was an interesting ride trying to figure out where it was heading. Essentially ended up being a throwback to those erotic thrillers of the late 80s, early 90s with a touch of GONE GIRL mixed in! Nice nods to BARRY LYNDON as well. 🤓
MARTY SUPREME - After GOOD TIME and UNCUT GEMS Josh Safdie returns (sans bro) for another anxiety inducing rollercoaster of a film. Easily the greatest table tennis movie I've ever seen, but don't let that put you off. Would be like me calling PULP FICTION a twist contest flick!
AVATAR: FIRE AND ASH (IMAX 3D) - Second viewing (this time on the huge IMAX at Leicester Sq.) and it plays a bit faster when you know what's coming. At 197mins it still takes a chunk out of your day especially with 40min of previews! Did catch Nolan's ODYSSEY trailer this time.😎
