Vstát v pět ráno, něco zadarmo sebrat, zatajit před ostatními kde, doma to hodinu čistit, během deseti minut osmažit a pak část úrody pečlivě usušit, aby bylo možné tou odpornou chutí kontaminovat omáčky, polévky a maso i v měsících, kdy už les naštěstí žádné čerstvé houby nevydává.
Národ, který dokázal z mokré houby udělat sezonní svátek a ještě si její chuť konzervuje na zimu, už opravdu nepotřebuje další důkaz své houževnatosti.
Germany started with this packaging bullshit, it was super hard to ship books for me to Germany (but some people got Cryptocurrencies and Tamers of Entropy).
Now this has expanded to whole EU and it's completely retarded. EU is regulating itself into irrelevance.
What a completely batshit crazy idea, only politicians or career bureaucrats that have never created anything useful in their lives could have invented this.
I'm firmly in the third camp.
The basic problem with AI 2040 is that it uses a fictional and speculative doomsday scenario to justify very real surveillance and control capabilities that governments would be certain to use in authoritarian ways, well beyond AI safety.
It warns against concentration of AI power but its policy proposals serve to increase the power of the most powerful entities on planet Earth.
It concretely sacrifices freedom in ways guaranteed to cause harm, in an effort to forestall a made up threat.
It proposes safety tools that give governments unprecedented capabilities to monitor, suppress, and manipulate. These tools are intended only to stop the development of overly powerful AI, but once they exist, governments will use them as they please.
Its authors mean well, but are so convinced of a fictional and unproven threat that they'd do real harm to the world to prevent it.
It would create a world that is less free and less safe in the name of safety for a threat that may not even exist.
I can't imagine making this trade off.
This sentence. 🤌
"Physical activity is a canonical characteristic of humans... the normalization of the lack of physical activity has led to the perception that physical activity is an intervention even though it remains as the modus vivendi engrained in our genes."
Wow.
We might be able to identify mitochondrial dysfunction with a simple treadmill test.
This new paper by @doctorinigo proposes that two key metrics can serve as a “reliable, early physiological signature of subclinical mitochondrial dysfunction.”
• A blood lactate level above 2.5 mmol/L
• A fat oxidation rate below 0.4 g/min during moderate exercise (50 to 60 percent of VO2 max)
Real talk:
Most people aren't healthy.
Most people aren't happy.
We have fried nervous systems everywhere we look.
We have people who haven't had a good night's sleep in decades.
We have an epidemic of mental health problems where anti-depressants and anti-anxiety medication (or non-prescribed alternatives) have become just a way of life.
Plainly...
The current mode of "living" is not working.
And yet, as bad for us as it is, it's become the cultural norm - like bedding down every evening in Skid Row - there are "pushers" everywhere you look -
Come on...
just one hit...
just one late night out drinking with us...
just one RedBull-fueled manic marathon at the office to get ahead. After all... "We gotta ship, bro. Before they do."
Do I agree with everything Bryan does?
No.
But at least, he's trying to wake up.
And, more admirably, despite the blowback, he's trying to wake others up to what "just living" has become.
I don't know who wrote this originally:
A future soldier time travels into a gun store:
"I need a rifle to kill aliens that are mostly bullet proof."
Ok, you're probably going to want a larger caliber, probably .308, or for armor the added velocity of 6.5 Creed might...
"No, we only have 5.56."
Ok, no problem. You're going to at least want a longer barrel to keep as much velocity as you can.
"I was thinking like, 7 inches."
Ah, ok. If portability is a big concern you're probably going to want a super compact PDW style stock.
"I need the longest, heaviest stock you can find."
...Ok. Lets talk optics then, a 7" 5.56 is gonna be pretty limited on range so a simple red dot...
"I need magnification."
Oh, are these aliens hard to identify?
"They're gigantic."
Oh.
"I tell you what, go ahead and put a red dot at a 45. They look sick."
Will you ever use it?
"I will not."
....so, aliens huh? That sounds rough.
"They have incredibly heightened senses. They can smell blood from a mile away."
OH. Well, now the shorter barrel makes a little more sense. You're making room for a big suppressor.
"A what?"
A silencer. Especially if you're going to be shooting these in close proximity to other people, the concussive forces will be...
"No thanks. We'll probably shoot a dozen of these full auto in a concrete stairwell."
That's...I think you're making my point.
"We'll also be fighting in dimly lit areas."
You'll want a super bright weapon mounted light.
"No I said they'll be dimly lit. What's your dimmest light?"
How is this war going for you?
"We're losing terribly."
Pred pár dňami sa ma niekto pýtal, aké dystopické regulácie zaviedla EÚ. Rovno začnem s MiCA:
AI has dramatically increased the value of truths that sit outside the mainstream. Before, mistaken beliefs were distributed pseudo randomly; now people (herded by LLMs) cluster around a predictable un-truth, creating an enormous arbitrage opportunity for anyone who knows better.
These things I believe...
- All humans should be exercising 2hrs/d for basic fitness (competitive sport demands more) 🚴♂️
- The vast majority of these hours should be <70% max HR, i.e. eazzzy. 🫀
- *In addition to this* you should include a lot of regular incidental movement interspersed throughout the day - take the stairs etc.
- Nutrition should reflect & support the training, i.e. A LOT of food with an emphasis on "real foods" & balanced macros. 🥩🥦🥑🥔🥕🥒🥗🍓🥥
- Quiet time in nature is a human need 🌲🚶♂️
- Sleep is essential & most days shouldn't have you woken by an alarm clock. 💤🛌
If you don't share these beliefs, feel free to drift off.
the best part of plane travel is that they are one of the last frontiers of our world that forcibly removes you — even if just for a few hours — from the relentless mindflaying of the compulsion to be terminally online
if you cannot rejoice, let alone survive, a mere 9.5 hours without needing to check your stupid little phone for "work emails" or scroll short-form vertical video content you should throw yourself into the engine of the next plane you board
In our world, #HRV is a good example...
What John Q Consumer wants:
Certainty.
“My HRV is low, therefore I should take a day off.”
But that’s not how biology works.
How he should be looking at the problem:
“If my HRV is low, there may be a ~10% greater chance that I’ll have a shitty workout, and a ~20% greater chance that I won’t respond as well to the workout.”
Further...
"If I’m already having a shitty workout, and my gait, mechanics, motivation, or coordination are not what they should be, there's also x% additional injury risk"
But what happens instead?
“This stuff doesn’t work. 9/10 times when my HRV is low, I feel great. It’s garbage.”
No.
That’s not the data failing.
That’s your brain demanding certainty from a probabilistic signal.
The value of HRV is not that it tells you exactly what to do every day.
The value is that it gives you a little bit of additional information that you didn’t have before.
And in coaching, a little bit of additional information - used well - compounds.
The problem isn’t the data...
The problem is your statistically lazy brain!
Recently, we purchased one of each Anthropic/OpenAI subscription plan and randomly ran long horizon coding tasks until we exhausted the weekly limit. It's widely believed that a $200/month plan maxes out at ~$2000/month worth of tokens (assuming API pricing). However, we found that the subscriptions are actually far more generous. (2/4)
