An hour a day of maths was a key recommendation of the 2021 Royal Society Maths Report that was commissioned BY HIPKINS. He sat on that report for 2 years and did nothing. We implemented an hour a day in our first 100 days and used the rest of the recommendations as a blueprint for our 2024 Maths Action Plan. We now have 6% more students at curriculum expectations in maths at year 6. Hipkins sat and watched maths results tank while ignoring the answers right in front of him and he is still refusing to keep an hour a day in tonight’s debate. National listened to the experts and early results are improving for the first time in many years as a result. Our kids deserve a world-leading education and National are delivering it.
Three years ago today, there was no war raging in Gaza. There was a ceasefire.
Then, in the early hours of 7 Oct, Hamas launched a coordinated invasion of Israel. Thousands of armed men crossed the border & they deliberately went looking for civilians.
They went into homes & murdered families. They killed children & elderly. They abducted men, women & children & dragged them back into Gaza as hostages where civilians cheered.
And they attacked the Nova music festival. Hundreds of young people were dancing in the desert when terrorists descended on them. It is grimly familiar to see Islamist terrorists choosing a place of music, dancing, & freedom as a killing ground. Manchester. The Bataclan. Nova.
There are photographs & videos of what happened that day because, extraordinarily, many of the perpetrators filmed it themselves.
There is a plethora of evidence of sexual violence. There is the intercepted call in which a Hamas attacker excitedly told his parents that he had killed 10 Jews “with my own hands”. They raped & burned bodies, hunted people through fields & into bomb shelters, & paraded terrified hostages through Gaza.
It was an atrocity.
And something happened in the West almost immediately afterwards that I still struggle to comprehend.
Before Israel had even buried its dead, people thousands of kilometres away began finding reasons why the victims had it coming.
Within days, the murderer and the murdered had begun swapping places in the popular imagination.
Three years later, antisemitism has returned with a fervour to Western society with a speed and confidence that should terrify us.
Ancient conspiracies about Jewish power & blood libels have been repackaged in the vocabulary of “decolonisation”. Jewish people around the world have been expected to account for the actions of a foreign government. People have celebrated or rationalised terrorism as “resistance”. Influencers who could not have found Gaza on a map 4 years ago have turned Palestine into an entire political identity.
And an extraordinary amount of propaganda has been swallowed without the slightest curiosity about the people producing it.
So, since the word itself is now treated as an obscenity I will admit that I am a Zionist.
Zionism, at its most basic, is the belief that the Jewish people have a right to national self-determination in their historic homeland & that Israel has a right to continue to exist as a Jewish state.
That does not mean believing the Israeli government is always right. It does not mean supporting every military action, every politician, or every policy. It does not mean believing Palestinian civilians have no rights or that their suffering does not matter.
It means I believe Israel should exist. Shouldnt be eradicated.
If Israel’s objective were simply to obliterate Gaza without regard for civilian life, it possesses the firepower to inflict destruction on a vastly greater scale. But they don’t.
Hamas, meanwhile, has repeatedly made clear that it regards the destruction of Israel (not peaceful coexistence with it). They have turned down peace deals & 2 state solutions.
You can grieve for innocent Palestinians. I do. And you can criticise Israel. I do.
You can also believe that every innocent life lost in this war is a tragedy.
But I will not pretend that Hamas is a liberation movement. I will not romanticise men who deliberately massacred & raped civilians. I will not accept that murdering Jews is morally complicated because the murderers have run a highly successful propaganda campaign.
And I will not participate in the extraordinary collective amnesia about how this war began.
On 7 Oct 2023, people were dancing. Then Hamas came across the border to kill them.
I remember them today.
@aniobrien They just hate that you’re right.
All they can do is throw the <insert stereotype here> as the default because they don’t have the intelligence to counter.
Labour's fiscal plan doesn't add up.
Today was Chris Hipkins and Barbara Edmonds' chance to make Labour's numbers add up, and they have failed far worse than anyone could have expected.
Here's what Labour has left out of its plan.
👉 $8.5 billion to fully restore the previous pay equity scheme. Labour says it will restore the old scheme in its first 100 days. Treasury says that would cost $11 billion, but Labour has only set aside $2.5 billion.
👉 $3.1 billion to freeze fuel excise and road user charges. National fully costed our own fuel excise freeze in our 2023 fiscal plan, so why hasn't Labour?
👉 $2.8 billion in lost dividends from companies in the Future Fund.
👉 $1.55 billion for health cost pressures in Budget 2030.
👉 $526 million for Labour's unfunded graduate nurse promise.
👉 $260 million to cap public transport fares.
Labour says the rest of the money for pay equity will come from cost pressure funding. If that's true, it would mean taking almost every spare dollar from the next four Budgets. That leaves nothing more for hospitals, schools, police, prisons, defence, and other frontline services.
Labour can't be trusted with the economy. It has released a dishonest fiscal plan that lacks any credibility and would leave New Zealanders paying a higher price.
This is the least credible fiscal plan released by a major party in living memory.
Labour won't tell Kiwis the truth, and households will end up paying for its unfunded promises through more new taxes. Labour is doubling down on its hidden bill, and that bill doesn't even include the $6.5 billion increase in foreign aid promised by its own Foreign Affairs spokesperson.
This election is going to be very tight, and the choice couldn't be clearer.
A Labour coalition would squander surpluses, increase debt, and hit Kiwis with nine new taxes.
National has a plan to grow the economy, spend sensibly and pay down debt, with no new taxes, so Kiwis can get ahead and have a more secure future.
So this is the level of abuse levelled at me as a NZ First candidate speaking up. Clearly highlights the level or lack thereof, of intellect & decency. And the decline in NZs overall standards. Note, many of the abusive & derogatory comments come from other Māori.
I shall not resile nor be silenced.

Curiously, do I look black?
Clearly not!

It's simple, the so called excess profits are roughly 2%. That's incredibly slim for any business. And without a efficient distribution network, would be the end of most businesses.
The loopy left talk about excess, they never talk about growth. The only time they mention growth, it's always done by taking something from someone by force.
You know when the left are under threat, they bring out the lies and personal attacks. It's so much easier to say someone's a facist, homophobic, islamophobic, or a rasist, than actually have an intelligent debate.
The other thing that's so obvious right now, is that people have such short memories, they gave Labour the biggest vote of no confidence ever, and they think the same people will do a better job..... How?
Have they magically taken smart pills?
No, nothing has changed.... Same incompetence wrapped up in confidence.
VERY SAD NEWS…
This is so disappointing.
CNN reported today that Walt Disney's new film called Jet Black, the African-American version of Snow White has been cancelled.
All of the seven dwarfs: Dealer, Stealer, Mugger, Forger, Drive-By, Homeboy, and Shank have refused to sing "Hi Ho, Hi Ho" because they say it offends black prostitutes.
They also say there ain't no way in hell they're gonna sing, It's off to work we go…
@aniobrien I wonder who you are taking about??? 😉
More lies… come out and fess up to your terrible history of untruths, misleading statements…. I know you won’t admit to them, easier to double down on the incompetence…. @_chloeswarbrick
@the_salty_one_@aniobrien If you believe the numbers, the excess profits are about 2%. The lie that you’re being told is the 2% is excess. But that’s what profit is. And 2% isn’t anywhere excessive, in fact it’s almost not sustainable.
So the truth is coming out.
The thing you can takeaway from this is that it’s clear that they have a plan, and once again the primary industries are going to feel the impact of bad policy.
It’s also clear that you can’t trust them!
Zero accountability, zero economic competence, zero caring about the people that they claim to represent.
After Chris Hipkins and Barbara Edmonds were unable to answer questions about their $18.8 billion hidden bill today, a senior Labour MP has tonight revealed an extension of the party’s planned Capital Gains Tax.
After months of Labour claiming their Capital Gains Tax exempts farms, Agriculture Spokesperson Jo Luxton has appeared to confirm that farms with accommodation on them, alongside commercially owned farms will in fact be subject to Labour’s Capital Gains Tax.
Farms up and down New Zealand are legally required to provide worker accommodation, alongside many remote farms that are not able to operate without providing accommodation.
For some farms the economic reality of hiring workers means they must provide accommodation as part of that agreement.
On top of that, many farms are owned through commercial co-operative agreements.
Jo Luxton has just confirmed that all of those farms will be hit by Labour’s Capital Gains Tax.
Of course, it’s no surprise that Labour now appears to be widening the pool of assets subject to their Capital Gains Tax. With an $18.8 billion funding gap to fill, Labour will be desperate to find new ways to take more money from hard working New Zealanders.
Chris Hipkins and Barbara Edmonds need to explain why they have told New Zealanders farms are exempt from their Capital Gains Tax, when that is clearly not the case.
Kiwis have a clear choice on November 7. It’s either no new taxes with National, or nine new taxes and counting under a Labour-Greens-Te Pati Māori-Opportunity Party coalition.
This retarded behaviour is just a sign that political violence is tolerated by the left. It’s the kind of behaviour you see in some Fucktard-A-Stan shithole moments before the communist dictators Secret Police come and either massacre or disappear the protestors.
However, last time I looked, we were an educated 1st world country…. It’s a slippery slope when retards like this do it in the name of Liberalism, to where genuine protesters are murdered by the kind of political system that these retards want in power.
@CitizenBomber You know it’s ok to look at both sides of the political spectrum. It’s ok to have mature debate. It’s ok to debate facts, however debating works of fiction and propaganda is a waste of energy and time. At least HDPA understands that. Pity other media don’t.
