The current discourse surrounding child sexual violence is disturbing. We cannot normalize victim blaming.
The facts remain:
📍 The age of consent is 18.
📍 Abuse is never the child’s fault.
📍 Accountability must be absolute.
We stand for the protection of every child.
Today, we remember the victims of the April 10-11 2000 tragedy and all other victims of #HumanRights violations at the hands of the past regime.
Justice must happen.
Today, we remember the young lives lost 26 years ago & all those who continue to live with the scars of that tragedy. Victims are still waiting for justice.
We call on the government for adequate resources & unwavering political will to ensure timely justice.

Gambian Women's Rights Scholar Dr. Satang Nabaneh Honored in The New Africa Magazine's 100 Young and Exceptional Africans 2025
Prominent Gambian academic, human rights advocate, and legal scholar Dr. Satang Nabaneh has been named among The New Africa Magazine’ s prestigious 100 Young and Exceptional Africans 2025, a curated list recognizing emerging leaders driving impactful change across the continent.
The annual recognition by the Pan-African publication highlights 100 young individuals making measurable contributions in diverse fields, including human rights, academia, science, business, technology, creative industries, public service, and community development. Dr. Nabaneh's inclusion celebrates her influential work advancing gender equality, women's and children's rights, and legal scholarship in Africa.
A professor and scholar-advocate, Dr. Nabaneh is the author of the 2025 book Female Genital Mutilation in Africa: Politics of Criminalisation, which examines the complex dynamics of criminalizing FGM and broader human rights frameworks. She serves as Director of Programs at the University of Dayton Human Rights Center, co-founder of Think Young Women, and founder of Law Hub Gambia—an independent institution promoting access to legal information and justice in The Gambia.
In her announcement, Dr. Nabaneh expressed deep gratitude: "Honored to be recognized among the 100 Young and Exceptional Africans 2025 by @newafricanmag. Grateful for the continued commitment to amplifying voices and work across the continent and the diaspora. #Africa"
The honor, announced recently by The New Africa Magazine, underscores her role in amplifying marginalized voices, influencing policy on gender-based issues, and contributing to human rights discourse within African and global frameworks. Law Hub Gambia also congratulated her, noting the recognition reflects her "outstanding contributions to legal scholarship, human rights education, and advancing access to justice across the continent."
This latest accolade adds to Dr. Nabaneh's growing profile as a leading voice in African feminist legal scholarship and advocacy, following her recent publications, global engagements, and prior recognitions in 2025.
